Job summary

DXN Limited is seeking an experienced HVAC Lead for their new Johor data centre project. You will oversee design reviews, install oversight, and commissioning of all HVAC systems to meet thermal and airflow specifications. You will mentor technicians and ensure documentation accuracy.

The role reports to the Mechanical Supervisor and requires hands-on guidance through FAT, installation, and validation phases, with experience in data centres or cleanrooms highly preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of HVAC design, installation and commissioning experience
• Experience in data centre, mission-critical or cleanroom environments (minimum 2 years)
• Documented experience producing ASHRAE-compliant TAB reports and thermal performance documentation
• Ability to review and produce HVAC drawings in AutoCAD or equivalent
• Familiarity with ASHRAE Guidelines and MS 1525 and DOSH/UBBL regulations

Responsibilities

• Review and validate customer HVAC design packages (equipment schedules, duct layouts, P&IDs, heat load and psychrometric calculations)
• Direct the installation of CRAC/CRAH and supplemental cooling, ductwork and terminal devices
• Lead commissioning end to end: duct pressure testing, system balancing, VAV/VFD setup and BMS integration
• Validate thermal performance through thermal mapping and airflow visualization under simulated IT load
• Own the technical documentation: submittals, shop drawings, as-builts, commissioning and FAT handover packs
• Mentor HVAC Technicians and support HIRARC and method statements for HVAC activities

Job description

About the role

You will lead design review, installation oversight and commissioning of all HVAC systems within our modular data centre units, making sure heating, ventilation, air conditioning and pressurisation meet the specified thermal performance, airflow balance and indoor environmental quality requirements.

This is an exciting time for DXN as we open our new facility in Johor. This is the primary technical authority for HVAC design queries and system performance validation through module build and FAT. You'll report to the Mechanical Supervisor and provide technical guidance to the HVAC Technicians on the production team.

What you'll be doing

Review and validate customer HVAC design packages (equipment schedules, duct layouts, P&IDs, heat load and psychrometric calculations), raising RFIs where the design is ambiguous or non-compliant

Direct the installation of CRAC/CRAH and supplemental cooling, ductwork and terminal devices, including the electrical and controls interfaces

Lead commissioning end to end: duct pressure testing, system balancing (TAB), fan and motor verification, VAV/VFD set-up and BMS integration

Validate thermal performance through thermal mapping and airflow visualisation under simulated IT load, verifying ASHRAE A-class compliance and advising on containment, in-row cooling and rear-door heat exchangers for high-density racks

Own the technical documentation: equipment submittal and shop drawing approvals, as-builts, commissioning and TAB reports, and FAT handover packs

Mentor the HVAC Technicians and support HIRARC and method statements for HVAC activities

What you’ll need

• Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or HVAC Engineering
• Minimum 5 years of HVAC design, installation and commissioning experience, with at least 2 years in data centre, mission-critical or cleanroom environments
• Documented experience producing ASHRAE-compliant TAB reports and thermal performance documentation. Please reference this in your application, as it is a shortlisting criterion
• Demonstrated experience leading HVAC commissioning for precision-cooled facilities
• Comprehensive knowledge of data centre HVAC: CRAC/CRAH, in-row and overhead cooling, containment, RDHx, economisers and adiabatic pre-cooling
• Strong design calculation skills: heat load analysis, psychrometrics, duct sizing, fan static pressure and airside pressure loss
• Competence in TAB procedures including traverse measurement, flow hood and duct leakage testing to SMACNA standards
• Working knowledge of ASHRAE Thermal Guidelines A1–A4, ASHRAE 55, ASHRAE 62.1, CIBSE TM55 and MS 1525
• Ability to review and produce HVAC drawings in AutoCAD or equivalent
• Familiarity with UBBL 1984 and DOSH factory regulations for HVAC plant

Mandatory licences and certifications

• Refrigerant Handling Certificate recognised by DOE Malaysia
