Senior Field Technician (Mechatronics/Mechanical)
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Field Technician to join our team. The Senior Field Technician will be responsible for the supervision, installation, assembly, commissioning, maintenance and technical support of automated machinery and equipment for the agriculture sector. The role involves hands-on work at project sites, including integration of mechanical, electrical and automated systems, while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications and quality standards.
Key responsibilities
- Install, assemble and align automated agricultural machinery and equipment.
- Install mechanical systems, structures, conveyors, sensors, actuators, motors and other automation components.
- Integrate mechanical, electrical and automation systems.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and installation instructions.
- Ensure all installation comply with the approved designs and project requirements.
- Support the testing, troubleshooting and commissioning of automated machinery and systems.
- Identify, diagnose and rectify mechanical and mechatronic faults during installation and commissioning.
- Conduct functional checks and adjustments to ensure equipment operates as intended.
- Work closely with engineers and project teams to resolve technical and operational issues.
Project Site Supervision & Support
- Travel to project and customer sites to lead, supervise and support installation and commissioning activities.
- Coordinate site readiness with customer representatives, plan manpower requirements and monitor project timelines to ensure timeline completion.
- Supervise and coordinate day-to-day site installation activities with the project team, contractors and other site personnel.
- Monitor installation progress and ensure works are carried out according to project schedules, drawings and specifications.
- Identify and resolve on-site technical and installation issues, escalating matters where required.
- Coordinate the proper and safe handling of tools, equipment and materials on site.
- Manage on-site equipment storage and handling as per company guidelines.
- Provide regular updates on installation progress, site issues and project requirements to the Project Manager, Engineering Manager and customer.
- Manage testing, commissioning and handover activities.
- Maintain a safe, organised and professional work environment.
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical guidance and on-site support to technicians and other team members.
- Plan, coordinate and allocate installation activities.
- Monitor workmanship and ensure work is carried out in accordance with required quality and safety standards.
- Train, mentor and support the development of junior technicians.
- Perform mechanical and mechatronic troubleshooting on automated machinery and equipment.
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs as required.
- Diagnose equipment faults and recommend practical solutions to improve equipment reliability, installation efficiency and system performance.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of installation, testing and commissioning activities.
- Report technical issues, modifications and site observations to the relevant project personnel.
- Prepare installation checklists, service reports and handover documentation.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety procedures and site-specific health and safety requirements.
- Ensure the proper use of tools, equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Identify potential safety risks and report them promptly.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and quality throughout all project activities.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other project-related or ad-hoc duties as assigned by management.
Requirements - Technical Skills
- Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Technical Certificate in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant hands-on experience in machinery installation, mechanical assembly, automation systems or industrial equipment.
- Strong hands-on technical and mechanical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
- Good understanding of mechanical systems, including motors, gearboxes, conveyors, sensors, actuators and other automated equipment.
- Basic knowledge of electrical wiring, pneumatic systems and automation controls will be an advantage.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, technical specifications and other engineering documentation.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment safely and effectively.
- Experience in agricultural, greenhouse, hydroponic, food processing or industrial automation projects will be an advantage.
