Job summary

WD is seeking a Failure Analysis Engineer in Penang, Malaysia to lead FA activities across Production and NPI, analyzing defects with advanced microscopy and spectroscopy.

You will mentor technicians, coordinate with analytical labs and cross-functional teams to drive yield and quality improvements. The ideal candidate has a science/engineering degree and 2+ years of FA experience, with strong documentation and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in science or engineering field required.
• At least 2 years of FA experience.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking.
• Excellent cross-functional communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with solid documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and supervise FA activities for Production and NPI samples.
• Mentor a team of technicians for media FA analysis and defect characterization.
• Coordinate second-level analysis with analytical labs.
• Communicate FA findings to stakeholders, including quarterly defect Pareto reports.
• Drive yield and quality improvements with cross-functional teams.
• Participate in global FA initiatives and FA database sharing.
• Drive defect unification and FA methodology improvements.
• Maintain and update defect library.
• Carry out simulations and experiments to understand defect formation.
