Job summary

SMEC (an SJ Group company) is seeking a Civil/Coastal Engineer to support planning and design works for coastal and marine projects in Malaysia and overseas. The role covers land reclamation, quay walls, ports, jetties, and related infrastructure, with emphasis on geotechnical and structural aspects.

You will prepare calculations, review drawings and specifications, manage subcontracts, and supervise design and site activities while ensuring compliance with standards and codes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil/environmental engineering is required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in design of reclamation projects is an advantage.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; team player and able to multi-task.

Job description

• Assist the team in planning & design works for civil engineering projects (e.g. land reclamation, port construction and other coastal structures) for local and/or overseas
• Civil and Structural (C&S), Environmental, design and analysis for coastal structures such as quay wall, port, jetty, revetment and land reclamation (i.e. deep and shallow foundation, temporary and permanent retaining system, soil improvement, instrumentation, etc.)
• Prepare and review technical calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications.
• Managing subcontracts (i.e. soil investigation contract, Accredited Checker contract, biodiversity contract etc.)
• Supervise both design and/or site work
• Ensure all engineering works comply with all relevant statutory standards, regulations and Codes of Practice
• Support on pursue project: assist in Tender submissions

Job Specification

• Bachelor's degree in civil / environmental engineering recognised by regulatory bodies.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in design of reclamation projects is an advantage.
• Substantial relevant experience in coastal, marine, geotechnical, civil & structural, infrastructure, and/or reclamation projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
• Team player and able to multi-task
• Discipline, self-motivated and resourceful
• Well-versed in Microsoft Office Suite of Software (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc.)
• Proficiency in engineering software such as StaadPro, Prokon etc. will be advantageous
