Job summary

SMEC Kuala Lumpur seeks a Civil/Coastal Design Engineer to support planning and design for coastal projects including land reclamation and port structures. You will assist senior engineers with site investigations and interpretation, and perform multidisciplinary design and analysis.

The role involves preparing calculations, reports and drawings, managing subcontracts, supervising design and site works, and ensuring compliance with codes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering recognized by regulatory bodies.
• Strong written and verbal communication in English.
• Team player capable of multi-tasking.
• Disciplined, self-motivated and resourceful.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint).
• Experience with engineering software like Plaxis, Geostudio, StaadPro or Prokon is advantageous.
• Contract: 1 year.
• Location: SMEC Kuala Lumpur.
• Minimum 2 years of design experience in reclamation projects is an advantage.
• Fresh graduates or early-career engineers are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

• Assist the team in planning & design works for civil engineering projects (e.g., land reclamation, port construction, coastal structures) for local and/or overseas.
• Assist Executive Engineer / Design Manager with site investigation planning and result interpretation.
• Carry out Civil, Structural, Environmental, and Geotechnical design/analysis for coastal structures (quay walls, ports, jetties, revetments, land reclamation).
• Prepare technical calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications.
• Manage subcontracts (soil investigation, Accredited Checker, biodiversity, etc.).
• Supervise both design and site work.
• Ensure all engineering works comply with statutory standards, regulations and Codes of Practice.
• Support tender submissions.
