Job summary

Sri KDU International School Klang is seeking a SENDCO for the Whole School to lead SEND strategy and oversee Autism Inclusion Classes starting January 2027. The role requires strong leadership, collaboration with teachers, and a commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Sri KDU International School Klang is looking to appoint a SENDCO Whole School to join our talented, energetic and friendly SEN centre in January 2027, to inspire the next generation of leaders.

Qualifications:

University or college degree

Teacher professional certification specific to hired/placed position

Minimum of two full contract teaching years’ experience

Professional commitment to continued professional development and training

SENDCO qualification – or willingness to undertake this

Core Roles and responsibilities

Lead SEND strategy and planning across the school

Oversee the administration and operation running of the Autism Inclusion Classes

Maintain the school’s SEND Register

Monitor interventions and support staff with SEND strategies

Provide coaching and mentoring to teachers and Teaching Assistants

Perform the duties of a curriculum teacher within the Inclusion Centre

Oversight and leadership

Establish and oversee the effective running of the school Inclusion Classes’ curriculum.

Establish a strategic plan for improving SEND provision at the school including for the AIC.

Provide teachers with support in writing IEPs

Provide coaching and training for the Inclusion Classes and mainstream teachers on adaptive teaching strategies

Reflect regularly on the effectiveness of support strategies and planning effectiveness

Lead Team Meetings including discussions on teaching adaptations

Instruction and Assessment

Planning & Preparation

Schedule collaborative planning sessions for AIC and mainstream teachers, where appropriate

Plan collaboratively for student learning

Plan based on student outcomes as appropriate

Involve parents in the creation of IEPs and transition documents

Plan to build upon students’ prior knowledge and experience

Address assessment throughout the planning process

Plan with an emphasis on the connection between subjects

Plan with recognition of the variety of learning abilities

Plan units that explore the similarities and differences between cultures/ places

Plan units that explore broad human experience from different perspectives

Plan units that focus directly on major issues e.g. Prejudice, equality

Teaching & learning

Use a range and balance of teaching strategies

Group students for effective different learning situations; differentiate instruction

Build on what students know

Use multiple resources to represent multiple perspectives

Empower students to feel response and to act

Involve students actively in their own learning

Develop open-ended inquiry and real-life investigations

Ensure up-to-date knowledge of the curriculum, as necessary

Advocate and embed the student learner profile in all aspects of Sri KDU life

Be aware that English may not be the first language of all students

Address the needs of all students of different levels and types of ability

Assessment

View, plan, teach and assess as an interconnected process

Use a range and balance of recording and reporting strategies

Involve students in peer and self-assessment

Involve students in a shared reflection at the end of each unit

Enable students to recognise assessment as a means of describing their learning

Assess student knowledge and experience before embarking on new learning

Behaviour and Emotional Support

Lead behaviour management planning within the Autism Inclusion Classes.

Provide AIC and mainstream teachers with support with de-escalation techniques.

Provide training and coaching for all staff on managing behaviour.

Coordinate behaviour management approaches.

Reflect on behaviour strategies.

Collaboration and Communication

Provide support during communication with parents.

Coach staff on managing difficult conversations.

Create a supportive and respectful environment within the Inclusion Centre,

Hold regular team meetings to discuss progress.

Parental Engagement

Oversee the communication of IEPs, Transition Plans and other SEND matters with parents as relevant.

Lead parent workshops on SEND support.

Stay updated on parent interactions.

Provide support with communication strategies.

Ensure parents are kept informed of school events including where AIC arrangements may differ from the rest of the school.

Team Leadership, Communication and Documentation

Line manage, appraise and support the staff within the AIC

Monitor teaching strategies to support SEND students in the Centre and in the mainstream.

Observe lessons and provide feedback.

Coach staff on using adaptive methods effectively.

Oversee the use of relevant SEND Teams channels and documents.

Ensure consistent updates of stored files

Monitor and provide feedback on classroom displays and learning environment

Ensure ownership of shared areas is delegated to team members

Ensure adherence to all school and company policies including the Safeguarding policy and Employee Code of Conduct.

Safeguarding and Welfare

Promote inclusion and positive outcomes for all students.

Oversee the application of safeguarding procedures within the Inclusion Centre.

Monitor policy compliance within the Inclusion Centre.

Provide training on safeguarding best practices in relation to SEND children.

Comply at all times with the company and school safeguarding policies and procedures.

Professional Development

Lead training sessions on inclusive practices for all academic staff.

Facilitate staff reflection on the learning of SEND students.

Monitor the CPD needs of the school in relation to SEND.

Oversee the training and development of the Inclusion Centre team.

Stay abreast of important developments in SEND education through regular training and self-development.

Health and Safety

Conduct safety audits in relation to SEND students.

Ensure risk assessments in relation to SEND students are current.

Provide training on safety protocols in relation to SEND students.

Documentation

Monitor quality of written records and reports in relation to SEND.

Ensure compliance with data protection.

Provide guidance on accurate record-keeping in relation to SEND student data.

Keep accurate records of student progress.

Additional Responsibilities

Provide cover for classes in the event of teacher absence

Take an active role in school life including in the CCA and trips programmes, school events and supervisory duties.

Perform other duties as reasonably directed by the Line Manager or Campus Principal
