Job summary

INTEGRATED ONCOLOGY CENTER (KUALA LUMPUR) SDN. BHD. is seeking an Operating Theatre Nurse to assist the surgical team. You will evaluate patients pre-operatively, ensure correct site and consent, and support the perioperative process from theatre setup to patient transfer.

Responsibilities include maintaining a sterile OT, performing hand scrubs, assisting in procedures, counting sponges and needles, and safeguarding patient safety at every step. Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.

Qualifications

• Must hold a nursing diploma or degree.
• Registered with the Malaysian Nursing Board and hold APC with BLS.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients before surgery; confirm NBM status and address concerns.
• Ensure correct site, procedure, and patient for surgery.
• Confirm patient consent and complete identification check before procedures.
• Prepare operating theatre and gather necessary supplies.
• Maintain sterile environment in OT.
• Perform surgical hand scrub and assist in procedures.
• Carry out sponge and needle counts with scrub nurse.
• Highlight discrepancies to surgeon and perioperative team before closing.
• Promote high standards of patient safety and care.
• Assist in positioning patient on OT table and ensure safety.

Education

Diploma / Degree in Nursing

Registered with the Malaysian Nursing Board

Job description

Evaluate patients before surgery, including assessing their NBM (Nil by mouth) status and addressing any concerns they may have.

Essentially ensure correct site, correct procedure and correct patient for surgery.

Ensure patients has consented prior surgery and the identification check is done before the procedures is carried out.

Prepare Operating Theatre

Gather all necessary suppliers for the operation.

Assume responsibility for maintaining a sterile environment in the operating theatre.

Carry out “surgical” hand scrub according to approved technique and guidelines.

Scrub and assist in the surgical procedures in the OT.

Carry out a sponges and needles count in conjunction with the scrub nurse.

Promote a high standard in the care and safety of patients and all techniques and practices.

Assist in positioning patient on the OT table with the assistance of other OT staff and securing patient safety on the table.

Draw attention of the surgeon and perioperative team to all discrepancies in the count before closing up and before the patient is transferred from the operating table.

Job Requirement

Diploma / Degree in Nursing

Registered with the Malaysian Nursing Board

Having a valid Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) for nursing practice and BLS
