SME Careers is seeking a Malay Language Specialist to review and create high-quality Malay content, evaluating quality and providing precise feedback. This remote hourly contractor role focuses on accuracy, fluency, tone, and cultural appropriateness across various domains.

You will write rewrites and model answers, rate AI outputs, and help improve the world’s premier AI models by making Malay output more natural and reliable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, Malay/English Literature, Communications, Journalism, Translation, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
• Native or near-native Malay proficiency (reading and writing).
• Strong professional proficiency in English (minimum C1) to follow guidelines and provide feedback in English.
• 3+ years of writing, editing, localization, translation, content QA, journalism, education, or language-focused work.
• Deep understanding of Malay grammar, spelling conventions, punctuation, and style; able to explain fixes.
• Comfortable handling regional variation: Malaysia vs Indonesia, Brunei, diaspora usage, including formality levels.
• High attention to detail when spotting subtle meaning shifts, awkward translations, or culturally mismatched phrasing.
• Reliable, self-directed, and able to deliver consistent quality in hourly remote contractor workflow across time zones.
• Prior experience with AI data training/annotation, translation QA, or rubric-based evaluation is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop AI Training Content: Create prompts and gold-standard Malay answers across domains.
• Optimize AI Performance: Evaluate and rank outputs to improve fluency, tone, and cultural accuracy.
• Ensure Model Integrity: Detect unsafe or misleading content, factual hallucinations, bias, and policy-risk language; validate reliability.
