Job summary

PerkinElmer in Malaysia is seeking a Regional Product Manager for Material Characterization. You will lead regional market strategy, support sales with technical and commercial insights, and drive successful launches of analytical instruments across the region.

The role requires 5–10 years in product management or related fields, deep knowledge of spectroscopy or materials characterisation, and the ability to travel 40–50%. A relevant science degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of experience in product management, technical sales, applications science, or commercial marketing in analytical instrumentation.
• Broad knowledge of at least one product line technology (atomic spectroscopy, chromatography, materials characterisation).
• Field-based specialist with multiple priorities and limited supervision.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with regional teams, distributors and customers.
• Willingness to travel 40–50%.
• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physics, or related scientific discipline.
• Preferred MSc/PhD in analytical or materials science.
• Hands-on laboratory experience with analytical instrumentation.
• Experience in field-based roles (applications scientist, field sales, or field marketing).
• Fluency in the region's primary commercial language; English may not be dominant.

Responsibilities

• Provide real-time product expertise to the regional sales team, support customer demonstrations and key account meetings.
• Lead regional competitive response with timely, accurate guidance on pricing and claims.
• Support regional sales management with product mix analysis and portfolio data.
• Participate in distributor management with product training and competitive tools.
• Lead localisation and execution of global product launches in region.
• Report competitive activity, customer feedback, and market trends to central product management.
• Conduct at least 20 in-depth customer conversations annually for market intelligence.
• Attend regional scientific conferences, trade shows and events to gather competitive intel.
• Build relationships with key regional customers, especially large-volume buyers.
• Support major tenders and framework agreements with product-specific input.
• Partner with Applications Scientist for demonstrations and application support.
