Job summary

Applied Materials, Inc. in Penang, Malaysia, seeks an experienced Quality Welding Engineer to support fabrication of UHP gas delivery systems for semiconductor equipment in a cleanroom.

This role owns weld quality across the fabrication lifecycle, combining orbital welding expertise with SEMI standards knowledge. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Welding, Materials/Metallurgical, or Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years welding engineering or weld quality experience in semiconductor/high-purity fabrication.
• Working knowledge of SEMI standards (F78, F81, E49.8, F70) and orbital GTAW welding equipment.

Responsibilities

• Develop, qualify, and maintain welding procedures and records for orbital GTAW of UHP gas lines and chamber weldments.
• Establish and audit welder qualification programs for orbital and manual welding on UHP systems.
• Serve as site SME on SEMI standards and maintain weld quality in cleanroom fabrication cells.
• Oversee visual, boroscopic, and dimensional weld inspections and drive corrective actions.
• Provide metallurgical oversight of 316L stainless steel including passivation and corrosion resistance.
• Specify and maintain orbital welding equipment from major manufacturers and ensure qualification.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, QA, and supply chain to qualify weld sources and maintain traceability.
