Job summary

SmartHire by SEEK is recruiting for a Quality Excellence lead in Bayan Lepas, Penang. You will drive FPY and scrap KPIs, chair MRB, and oversee HLA and NPI quality gates across precision engineering operations for semiconductor, medical device, and industrial automation sectors.

You will mentor a multi-shift team, manage 8D and root-cause investigations, and implement Poka-Yoke solutions while ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 standards and SPC performance metrics.

Qualifications

• Lead section KPIs including FPY, scrap cost and escape rates.
• Chair Material Review Board and act as escalation interface for customer claims.
• Oversee HLA quality; manage gates, tolerance stack-up analysis and control special processes.
• Oversee NPI quality gates; sign off FAI deliverables; lead DFMEA/PFMEA reviews.
• Approve internal and external 8D reports using 5-Why, DOE and data-driven root cause tools.
• Lead Poka-Yoke initiatives to strengthen quality on the floor.
• Maintain ISO 9001 QMS compliance and monitor SPC Cp/Cpk performance.

About The Opportunity: This is an opportunity to lead quality excellence across precision engineering and High Level Assembly (HLA) operations supporting the semiconductor, medical device and industrial automation sectors in Bayan Lepas, Penang.

About Our Client: Our client is a high-tech equipment manufacturer specialising in precision engineering and High Level Assembly for the semiconductor, medical device and industrial automation sectors.

What you'll be doing?

• Lead quality performance: Drive section-level KPIs including FPY, scrap cost and escape rates while managing multi-shift manpower planning.
• Manage quality escalations: Chair the Material Review Board and act as the key escalation interface for customer claims and systemic supplier defects.
• Oversee HLA quality: Manage quality gates across the HLA flow, lead tolerance stack-up analysis and control special processes.
• Govern NPI quality: Oversee NPI quality gates, sign off FAI deliverables and lead DFMEA/PFMEA reviews to prevent manufacturing risks.
• Drive corrective action: Approve internal and external 8D reports using 5-Why, DOE and other data-driven root cause tools.
• Champion mistake-proofing: Lead engineering-level Poka-Yoke initiatives to strengthen quality on the manufacturing floor.
• Maintain process control: Supervise SPC matrices, monitor Cp/Cpk performance and maintain ISO 9001 QMS compliance.

Who are they looking for?

• Relevant engineering degree: A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or Manufacturing Engineering is required.
• Manufacturing quality experience: 5-8 years of manufacturing quality experience, including 2-3 years in a supervisory role.
• Relevant industry exposure: Experience with CNC, sheet metal, electro-mechanical box builds or HLA environments is important.
• Quality methodology expertise: Advanced knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC and 8D methodology is expected.
• Drawing and standards knowledge: Strong GD&T blueprint interpretation skills and familiarity with IPC-A-610/620 standards are valued.
• Language proficiency: Professional fluency in spoken and written English and Mandarin is required for collaboration with cross-regional engineering teams and suppliers.
