Our client is seeking a Purchasing Manager (Sheet Metal Industry) to join their team!
This is an opportunity to lead strategic sourcing, supplier development and purchasing for a manufacturing operation. This role offers ownership of cost, quality, delivery and supply continuity while leading a seven-person Purchasing team and working closely with key business functions.
What you'll be doing?
- Lead purchasing activities: Manage sourcing and purchasing for sheet metal, stamping, machining, electrical components, raw materials, hardware and other production materials.
- Build the supplier base: Identify, evaluate, qualify and develop local and overseas suppliers to support competitive pricing, quality, capacity and delivery.
- Drive cost savings: Conduct market research, supplier benchmarking, cost analysis and alternative sourcing reviews to improve overall value.
- Negotiate commercial terms: Lead discussions on pricing, contracts, payment terms, minimum order quantities, lead times and other supplier conditions.
- Manage supplier performance: Monitor cost, quality, delivery, capacity and responsiveness, and drive corrective actions when needed.
- Partner cross-functionally: Work with Production, Planning, Engineering, Quality, Warehouse and Finance to align purchasing with production needs and business objectives.
- Make informed purchasing decisions: Review material requirements, purchase requisitions, quotations and comparisons to select the best sourcing options.
- Protect supply continuity: Monitor material availability, supplier lead times and supply risks, taking proactive action to prevent production disruptions.
- Strengthen purchasing standards: Maintain purchasing procedures, supplier evaluation systems and sourcing standards in line with company policies and ISO requirements.
- Lead the team: Allocate work, manage performance and support the development of the Purchasing team.
- Track procurement performance: Prepare reports and monitor KPIs covering cost savings, supplier performance, on-time delivery and material availability.
Who are they looking for?
- Relevant experience: Candidates with at least 5 years of purchasing or procurement experience, including strong hand-on sourcing and supplier development experience, are sought.
- Manufacturing sourcing expertise: Strong experience with sheet metal, stamping, machining, electrical components, hardware or other manufacturing-related materials will be important.
- Supplier and commercial capability: Proven experience in supplier sourcing, quotation comparison, cost analysis, price negotiation and supplier evaluation is required.
- Procurement knowledge: A strong understanding of procurement processes, supplier management and supply chain practices will support success in the role.
- Team leadership: Experience leading a team, with the ability to allocate work, manage performance and develop staff, is required.
- Commercial problem-solving: Strong negotiation, analytical, communication and problem-solving skills, together with the ability to identify cost reductions and alternative suppliers, are valued.
- Systems proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with ERP or MRP systems will be useful in managing purchasing activities effectively.
- Language capability: Good command of Mandarin and English is required for communication with local and overseas suppliers.
