Job summary

Sports Direct Malaysia is seeking a Project Manager / Assistant Project Manager to lead end-to-end retail store fit-out, refurbishment, and renovation projects from planning through handover.

You will coordinate with landlords, consultants, contractors, and suppliers, develop design concepts, manage schedules and budgets, and ensure quality while collaborating with internal teams across Retail Operations, Finance, Procurement, Marketing and Facilities.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in interior design, architecture, or construction management.
• Minimum 8+ years in retail project management or fit-out.
• Experience with retail chains, mall developments or commercial fit-out preferred.
• Experience in procurement processes and project scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end retail store fit-out, refurbishment, and renovation projects from planning through handover.
• Develop design concepts, layouts, and space planning solutions for retail stores.
• Prepare and review drawings, 3D renderings, presentations, and project documentation.
• Coordinate with landlords, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and authorities to obtain approvals and permits.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, resources, risks, and quality standards to ensure successful delivery.
• Monitor site progress and conduct regular inspections to ensure design compliance.
• Collaborate with Retail Operations, Finance, Procurement, Marketing and Facilities teams.
• Review contractor quotations, negotiate costs, and support procurement activities.
• Ensure timely project reporting and communication to management and stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and best practices in project execution.
• Maintain accurate project records, budgets and post-project evaluations.

• Monitor site progress and conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications and company standards.
• Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders including Retail Operations, Finance, Procurement, Marketing, and Facilities teams.
• Review contractor quotations, negotiate project costs, and support procurement activities.
• Ensure timely project reporting and communication to management and stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices in project execution.
• Maintain accurate project records, budgets, and post-project evaluations.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in interior design, Architecture, Project Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years & above of relevant experience in retail project management, retail fit-out, renovation, or construction projects.
• Experience working with retail chains, shopping mall developments, or commercial fit-out projects is highly preferred.
• Experience in construction or interior fit-out companies will be an added advantage.
• Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, construction processes, and procurement procedures.
• Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously within tight timelines.
• Strong stakeholder management and vendor coordination skills.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, 3D Studio Max (or equivalent visualization software), Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Experience with project scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project will be an advantage.
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to travel for project site visits when required.
