Job summary

Mynews in Malaysia is seeking a capable Project Manager to oversee store fit-out projects across openings, refurbishments, relocations and reinstatements, coordinating with Design, Operations, Real Estate, Procurement, IT, Maintenance and external consultants.

You will monitor progress, ensure quality and safety, manage budgets, prepare schedules, and support handovers to Operations. The role demands 3–5 years in retail fit-out or related construction, with AutoCAD and MS Office skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in project, Construction Management, Interior Design, Architecture, Building Technology, or related discipline.
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in retail fit-out, interior construction, or commercial renovation projects.
• Experience coordinating multiple outlets fit-out projects is an added advantage.
• Experience in retail, convenience store, or F&B construction projects is preferred.
• Basic understanding of project costing, tendering, and contractor coordination.
• Knowledge of Bills of Quantities (BQ), cost estimation, and construction documentation.
• Familiarity with local authority and mall submission processes.
• Good understanding of retail M&E coordination.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day execution of store fit-out projects, including new store openings, refurbishments, relocations, and reinstatement works.
• Assist in preparing project schedules, timelines, and work plans.
• Coordinate with Design, Operations, Real Estate, Procurement, IT, Maintenance, and external consultants to ensure project milestones are achieved.
• Monitor site progress and ensure timely completion of project activities.
• Conduct regular site inspections to ensure work quality and compliance with approved drawings.
• Assist in store handover to the Operations team upon project completion.
• Assist in preparing project cost estimates and budget tracking.
• Obtain and compare quotations from contractors and suppliers.
• Monitor variation orders and highlight cost deviations for management review.
• Maintain project cost reports, payment records, and supporting documentation.
• Coordinate appointed contractors and suppliers throughout project execution.
• Monitor contractor performance, workmanship quality, and project progress.
• Ensure contractors comply with company safety standards and site regulations.
• Follow up on project schedules, material deliveries, and outstanding works.
• Assist in evaluating contractor performance upon project completion.
• Coordinate submissions to landlords, mall management, consultants, and relevant authorities where required.
• Ensure construction works comply with approved drawings, company standards, and local authority requirements.
• Coordinate M&E works, including electrical, lighting, airconditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, water supply, and POS infrastructure.
• Assist in monitoring fire safety and statutory compliance throughout project execution.
• Coordinate defect inspections, rectification, and defect liability follow-up after project handover.
• Maintain project documentation, drawings, quotations, variation orders, and project records.
• Assist in developing standard BQ templates and maintaining cost benchmark databases.
• Support material evaluations for quality, durability, and cost effectiveness.
• Recommend practical improvements to enhance project efficiency, cost savings, and construction quality.
• Ensure company fit-out standards are consistently implemented across all projects.
