Job summary

SYB PROJECT SDN BHD is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join on a contract basis in Penang and Kedah. The role involves overseeing engineering projects from conception through to completion, ensuring on-time delivery, adherence to budget, and high-quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have a diploma or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field, with at least 2 years of construction/project engineering experience. Travel to project sites will be required.

About the role
SYB PROJECT SDN BHD is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our team on a contract basis in Penang & Kedah. This is a pivotal role that will involve overseeing and managing engineering projects from conception through to completion. As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This position is critical to our operations and will require you to work closely with multidisciplinary teams, stakeholders, and clients to achieve project objectives and drive business success.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor day-to-day construction activities at project sites.


• Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and site teams to ensure smooth project execution.


• Review project drawings, specifications and construction documents.


• Monitor project progress, quality of work and compliance with approved drawings and specifications.


• Prepare and maintain project documentation, reports, site records and progress updates.


• Assist in planning work schedules, manpower, materials and site resources.


• Identify and resolve site issues and coordinate with relevant parties for timely solutions.


• Conduct site inspections and ensure works are carried out safely and according to project requirements.


• Attend site meetings and coordinate with project stakeholders.


• Ensure projects are completed within the required timeline and budget.


• Perform any other duties related to project execution as assigned by the Project Manager.

Requirements / Must Have

• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.


• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in construction/project engineering.


• Good understanding of construction methods, drawings and site coordination.


• Able to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.


• Good communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.


• Able to work independently and as part of a team.


• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office; knowledge of AutoCAD is an added advantage.


• Willing to travel and work at project sites when required.


• Possess a valid driving licence.


• Strong sense of responsibility, good time management and able to meet project deadlines.

Preferred / Added Advantage

• Experience in commercial, interior fit-out or building construction projects.


• Experience coordinating subcontractors, consultants and suppliers.


• Familiarity with project scheduling, progress claims and site documentation.


• Knowledge of construction standards, safety requirements and relevant local regulations.


• Fresh graduates with strong technical knowledge and a positive attitude may also be considered.
