Production Engineer – Chemical Manufacturing

We are looking for a hands-on Production Engineer to join our manufacturing team in Rawang. We welcome both experienced engineers and high-potential fresh graduates who are technically curious, practical and eager to develop their careers in chemical manufacturing.
Position Summary
The Production Engineer is responsible for supporting and managing the day-to-day operation, troubleshooting and continuous improvement of EAM's chemical manufacturing processes.
The role involves working directly with production operators and equipment to ensure manufacturing activities are carried out safely, efficiently and consistently.
You will be involved in chemical processing, purification, blending, filling and packaging operations, while applying engineering principles to solve production problems, improve processes, reduce downtime and increase productivity.
This is a hands-on, plant-based engineering position, not an office-only role.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations
- Plan, coordinate and supervise daily manufacturing activities according to production schedules.
- Supervise and work closely with production operators and technicians.
- Support chemical processing, purification, blending, mixing, filling and packaging operations.
- Coordinate manpower, equipment and raw materials for production activities.
- Monitor batch progress and ensure production targets are achieved safely and on schedule.
- Ensure production activities follow approved SOPs, work instructions and Batch Manufacturing Records (BMR).
- Monitor raw material consumption, batch yields, production losses and equipment utilisation.
- Coordinate closely with QC, Warehouse and other departments to ensure smooth production flow.
Process Engineering & Troubleshooting
- Monitor process parameters and identify abnormal process behaviour.
- Troubleshoot production, process and equipment problems.
- Investigation production downtime, deviations, quality problems and recurring process failures.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Apply engineering principles to improve process efficiency, yield, throughput and consistency.
- Support optimisation of chemical processing and manufacturing operations.
- Assist with process scale-up and transfer of new products from development into production.
- Support equipment modification, installation, commissioning and qualification.
- Work with process equipment such as pumps, piping, valves, tanks, mixing systems, filtration systems and other chemical-processing equipment.
- Identify production bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement.
- Collect and analyse production data including:
- Lead or support productivity and process-improvement projects.
- Improve production workflow, operating methods and equipment utilisation.
- Develop and monitor relevant production KPIs.
- Support initiatives to reduce waste, improve productivity and lower manufacturing costs.
- Develop practical engineering solutions to recurring production problems.
Team & Operator Management
- Supervise production operators and technicians during daily manufacturing activities.
- Allocate manpower and production responsibilities.
- Conduct production briefings and communicate daily priorities.
- Train operators on SOPs, equipment operation, chemical handling and good manufacturing practices.
- Promote good housekeeping and workplace discipline.
- Build a production culture focused on safety, accountability, quality and continuous improvement.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure production activities comply with approved procedures and product requirements.
- Work closely with QC and QA to investigate process deviations and non-conforming products.
- Support applicable quality systems including ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and GMP.
- Participate in internal and external audits where required.
- Maintain accurate and traceable production documentation.
Safety
- Ensure safe handling, transfer and storage of chemicals, including flammable and hazardous materials.
- Enforce appropriate PPE and safe operating procedures.
- Participate in process and workplace risk assessments.
- Support investigation of incidents and near misses.
- Ensure production equipment is operated within approved operating conditions.
- Maintain good housekeeping and safe working conditions throughout the production area.
- Support compliance with applicable DOSH, OSHA and environmental requirements.
Candidate Requirements
Education
Bachelor's Degree in:
- Chemical Engineering
- Chemical Process Engineering
- Process Engineering
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
or another relevant engineering/technical discipline.
Experience
Fresh graduates and candidates with up to 5 years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
For fresh graduates, we are particularly interested in candidates with:
- Strong chemical/process engineering fundamentals.
- Good practical problem-solving ability.
- Relevant industrial training or internship experience.
- Final-year projects involving process engineering, chemical processing, manufacturing, equipment design or process optimisation.
- A genuine interest in working directly with manufacturing equipment and production operators.
For experienced candidates, exposure to chemical, pharmaceutical, specialty chemical, food, oleochemical or other process manufacturing industries will be an advantage.
Experience supervising operators or technicians is beneficial but not mandatory.
Technical Knowledge
Experience, academic knowledge or practical exposure in one or more of the following will be advantageous:
- Batch chemical processing
- Chemical blending and mixing
- Distillation and purification
- Filtration and separation
- Heat and mass transfer
- Pumps, piping, valves and tanks
- Process control and instrumentation
- Production optimisation
- Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
