Job summary

Cantilever Sdn Bhd is seeking a Lead Engineer to join our Technical Department in Malaysia. You will connect design requirements with site execution and guide our technical engineers, ensuring solutions are clear, coordinated and ready for construction.

Combining engineering review, leadership and practical problem-solving, you will work closely with project teams and external stakeholders to drive technical matters from clarification through to approval and implementation.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
• Experience in construction engineering, technical coordination and design review.
• Familiarity with Malaysian engineering standards and construction practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop engineers, guiding daily tasks and timely delivery.
• Turn designs into buildable solutions, reviewing detailed design, construction drawings, and calculations.
• Resolve site challenges, coordinating queries and RFIs for timely clarification.
• Coordinate technically with lead consultants, sub-consultants, project managers, operations and suppliers.
• Manage submissions, review comments and outstanding decisions against project priorities.
• Stay connected to site execution, attend meetings and monitor progress.

Your Role

As the Lead Engineer within our Technical Department, you will report to the Technical Manager and guide our Technical Engineers. You will connect design requirements with site execution, ensuring technical solutions are clear, coordinated and ready for construction.

Combining engineering review, team leadership and practical problem-solving, you will work closely with project teams and external stakeholders to drive technical matters from clarification through to approval and implementation.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and develop engineers, guiding daily tasks, reviewing their work and supporting accurate, timely delivery.
• Turn designs into buildable solutions, reviewing detailed design, construction and shop drawings, engineering calculations, method statements and technical proposals.
• Resolve site challenges, coordinating technical queries and RFIs to secure timely clarification and keep construction moving.
• Drive technical coordination with lead consultants, sub-consultants, project managers, operations teams, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Manage deliverables and approvals, tracking submissions, review comments and outstanding decisions against project priorities.
• Stay connected to site execution, attending coordination meetings, monitoring progress and escalating issues requiring timely decisions.
• Maintain reliable technical records, overseeing technical department document control and reviewing as-built information through project completion.

What You’ll Bring

• A degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
• Relevant experience in construction engineering, technical coordination and design review, preferably in elevated infrastructure or major civil engineering works.
• Sound engineering judgement and a practical approach to resolving construction challenges.
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to clarify requirements, discuss technical issues and follow through on decisions.
• Good organisation and planning skills to manage competing priorities and submission deadlines.
• Experience guiding junior engineers and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams would be an advantage.
• Familiarity with Malaysian engineering standards and construction practices. Professional registration or relevant certifications would be an advantage.
