Job summary

MANSFIELD MANUFACTURING (M) SDN. BHD. in Malaysia is seeking a Powder Coating Operator to operate and set up powder coating equipment, spray guns and related equipment, following work instructions and specifications to ensure consistent finishes.

You will monitor powder usage, perform colour changes, adjust spray parameters, inspect finished parts with QA/QC and assist in process improvements, while maintaining safety and 5S practices.

Responsibilities

• Operate and set up powder coating equipment, spray guns and related equipment.
• Perform powder coating on metal stamping and fabricated components according to work instructions and specifications.
• Adjust spray gun parameters such as powder flow, air pressure, voltage and spray pattern.
• Monitor powder usage, coating coverage and overall coating consistency.
• Perform colour changes and ensure proper cleaning of equipment between different colours.
• Monitor pretreatment, cleaning, degreasing, rinsing and surface pretreatment processes.
• Ensure components are properly dried before powder coating.
• Monitor curing oven temperature, conveyor speed and curing time.
• Identify and report abnormal conditions affecting coating quality.
• Conduct visual inspection of finished coated parts and check coating thickness.
• Identify coating defects and carry out basic coating tests such as adhesion and curing checks.
• Work closely with QA/QC to resolve coating quality issues.
• Troubleshoot powder coating equipment and perform basic preventive maintenance.
• Maintain spray booth, recovery system, oven and other coating equipment.
• Monitor daily production output and minimise powder wastage, rework and rejection.
• Assist in manpower arrangement and daily production activities when required.
• Identify opportunities to improve coating quality, productivity and powder utilisation.
• Record and analyse coating defects and recommend corrective actions.
• Follow safety procedures, PPE requirements and environmental regulations.
• Train and guide operators on spraying techniques and equipment operation.

Job description

Monitor the cleaning, degreasing, rinsing and surface pretreatment processes.

Ensure components are properly dried before powder coating.

Monitor curing oven temperature, conveyor speed and curing time.

Identify and report abnormal conditions affecting coating quality.

Quality Control

Conduct visual inspection of finished coated parts.

Check coating thickness using a coating thickness gauge.

Identify coating defects such as poor adhesion, uneven coating, orange peel, pinholes, blistering, contamination and under/over-curing.

Carry out basic coating tests where required, such as adhesion and curing checks.

Work closely with QA/QC to resolve coating quality issues.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance

Troubleshoot powder coating equipment, spray guns, pumps, hoses and related equipment.

Perform basic preventive maintenance and cleaning of powder coating equipment.

Identify equipment abnormalities and coordinate with Maintenance for major repairs.

Maintain spray booth, recovery system, oven and other coating equipment in good operating condition.

Production Support

Monitor daily production output and ensure production targets are achieved.

Minimise powder wastage, rework and rejection.

Ensure proper handling and storage of powder coating materials.

Assist the Powder Coating Leader in manpower arrangement and daily production activities when required.

Process Improvement

Identify opportunities to improve coating quality, productivity and powder utilisation.

Assist in developing and improving work instructions and process parameters.

Support trials for new powder colours, materials and coating specifications.

Record and analyse coating defects and recommend corrective actions.

Safety & Compliance

Follow company safety procedures, PPE requirements and chemical handling procedures.

Ensure proper housekeeping and 5S within the powder coating area.

Follow environmental requirements relating to powder coating, chemicals and waste disposal.

Report unsafe conditions, equipment abnormalities and environmental incidents to the supervisor.

Training & Team Support

Train and guide powder coating operators on proper spraying techniques and equipment operation.

Share technical knowledge with operators and assist in resolving daily process problems.
