Sophic Automation in Malaysia seeks a senior PLC programmer to design, develop and test industrial automation solutions. You will work across Siemens, Omron, Beckhoff and Allen-Bradley platforms, develop HMIs/SCADAs, and support installation, FAT/SAT and commissioning activities.
The role requires hands-on PLC experience, strong problem-solving, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams on customer sites. Travel to client sites is expected.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS: GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, modify, test and maintain PLC programs for industrial automation systems.
Program and configure PLC systems using platforms such as Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Beckhoff or equivalent platforms.
Develop, configure and maintain Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and SCADA applications.
Configure PLC hardware, input and output modules, communication devices, industrial networks and control-system architecture.
Integrate PLC-controlled systems with sensors, drives, motors, robots, vision systems, instrumentation and third-party equipment.
Assist in developing automation solutions according to project specifications and customer requirements.
Participate in machine installation, start-up, testing and commissioning activities.
Conduct or support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
Perform on-site commissioning, system optimisation and technical support at customer facilities.
Verify PLC programs, equipment sequences, safety interlocks and system functionality before project handover.
Support local and overseas commissioning assignments when required.
Diagnose and resolve PLC, HMI, SCADA, electrical, communication and automation-system issues.
Troubleshoot PLC-controlled machinery, electrical systems, industrial networks and automation processes.
Provide technical support during equipment installation, commissioning and post-installation operation.
Identify the root causes of system failures and recommend corrective or preventive actions.
Assist customers and internal teams in resolving technical issues when required.
Prepare and maintain accurate technical documentation, including:
PLC program documentation and backups
Electrical input and output lists
Wiring records and control schematics
Engineering change logs
Operating and maintenance manuals
FAT and SAT records
Commissioning and service reports
Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control-panel drawings and technical specifications.
Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, project and service teams throughout project execution.
Follow company engineering standards, project procedures and workplace safety requirements.
Ensure assigned tasks and projects are completed within the required timeline and quality standards.
2) ADDED JOB RESPONSIBILITIES : SENIOR ROLE (Candidates at Senior level may be responsible for):
Leading complex PLC programming and system-integration projects.
Reviewing project specifications and recommending suitable control-system architecture.
Conducting PLC software and engineering design reviews.
Mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior engineers and programmers.
Promoting PLC programming standards, documentation practices and engineering best practices.
Coordinating technical activities with customers, vendors and project stakeholders.
Supporting project planning, manpower allocation, commissioning schedules and technical risk management.
Providing technical leadership during critical troubleshooting and commissioning activities.
JOB REQUIREMENT:
1) EDUCATION
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in any of the following disciplines: Electrical / Electronic / Mechatronics / Automation / Instrumentation / Control / Robotics / Other relevant engineering disciplines
Polytechnic and technical-institution graduates are encouraged to apply.
Diploma holders with strong and extensive industrial automation experience may be considered for senior-level positions.
2) EXPERIENCES
Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.
Internship, academic project or hands-on exposure involving PLCs, HMIs, electrical controls or industrial automation will be an advantage.
Approximately 2–5 years of relevant experience in PLC programming, machine automation, system integration or commissioning.
Able to independently handle PLC programming, troubleshooting and commissioning assignments with reasonable supervision.
B) Senior Level
Minimum 5 years of hands-on PLC programming and industrial automation experience.
Strong experience in system integration, machine commissioning, troubleshooting and customer-site support.
Experience leading automation projects or mentoring junior team members is preferred
3) TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge or experience in one or more PLC platforms, including:
Siemens
Omron
Beckhoff
Other equivalent industrial PLC systems
Knowledge or experience in HMI and SCADA development.
Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control-panel drawings.
Understanding of PLC hardware, digital and analogue input/output modules, sensors, actuators and industrial control components.
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols will be an advantage, including:
Ethernet/IP
Profinet
Profibus
Modbus TCP/RTU
EtherCAT
OPC UA
Other industrial communication protocols
Experience integrating PLC systems with drives, robots, vision systems, sensors and third-party equipment will be an advantage.
Basic knowledge of electrical troubleshooting, control-panel wiring and machinery safety systems is preferred.
4) GENERAL

Willing to travel locally and overseas approximately 25%–40% of the time.
Possess a valid driving licence.
Willing to work overtime, weekends or public holidays when required during critical commissioning activities.
