Job summary

LIFEWORK is seeking a PLC Automation Technician/Engineer to join our team in Bayan Lepas, Penang on a yearly contractual placement. You will design, program, implement, and maintain PLC systems and automation solutions across diverse projects.

Responsibilities include programming, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and documentation. You will work with electrical engineers and production teams to enhance efficiency while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Diploma/degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electronics or related field.
• 3–5 years PLC programming and automation design experience.
• Experience with Siemens/Omron/Mitsubishi PLC platforms.
• Knowledge of industrial control systems, sensors and actuators.
• Electrical schematic reading ability.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop PLC programs and automation solutions.
• Install, configure and commission PLC systems and hardware.
• Troubleshoot and repair PLC systems and equipment.
• Perform regular maintenance and system testing.
• Collaborate with engineers and production teams to integrate automation.
• Create technical diagrams and maintenance manuals.
• Provide on-site support to operations staff.
• Monitor performance and implement improvements to reduce downtime.
• Ensure safety standards and regulations are met.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled PLC Automation Technician / Engineer to join our team in Bayan Lepas, Penang under a yearly contractual placement. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, programming, implementing, and maintaining programmable logic controller (PLC) systems and industrial automation solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop PLC programs and automation solutions using industry-standard programming languages and software
• Install, configure, and commission PLC systems and associated hardware components
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair malfunctioning PLC systems and automated equipment
• Perform regular maintenance and system testing to ensure optimal performance and uptime
• Collaborate with electrical engineers and production teams to integrate automation systems with existing infrastructure
• Create technical documentation, including system diagrams, programming logic and maintenance manuals
• Conduct on-site support and provide technical assistance to operations staff
• Monitor system performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce downtime
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations in all automation work

What we're looking for

• Diploma / Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electronics or other relevant education
• Proven experience in PLC programming and automation system design (minimum 3-5 years preferred)
• Proficiency with PLC platforms such as Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi or equivalent
• Strong knowledge of industrial control systems, sensors and actuators
• Competency in electrical schematic reading and interpretation
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication abilities and capacity to work effectively in a team environment
• Attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality standards
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
