Job summary

SmartHire by SEEK is seeking a Planner in Penang to take a central role in production planning within a precision manufacturing environment. You will manage schedules, coordinate new products, secure materials, and monitor delivery progress to ensure on-time fulfilment.

Qualifications

Our client is seeking a Planner to join their team! This is an opportunity to play a central role in production planning within a precision manufacturing environment. This position offers exposure to customer orders, new products, materials, capacity planning and continuous improvement while working with a collaborative planning team.

What you'll be doing?

• Build production schedules: Develop and maintain schedules based on customer orders, forecasts and available resources.
• Coordinate new products: Work with manufacturing, R&D and assembly teams to plan prototypes and new products accurately.
• Track delivery progress: Monitor production progress and adjust schedules to support on-time delivery.
• Secure materials: Collaborate with procurement and the warehouse to ensure raw materials and components are available when needed.
• Control inventory: Monitor stock levels, initiate material requisitions and help prevent stock-outs or excessive inventory.
• Validate customer requirements: Review customer orders and specifications to support accurate production planning.
• Keep stakeholders informed: Share production status, lead times, delays and potential issues with sales, customers and internal teams.
• Optimise capacity: Analyse production capacity and resource utilisation to improve workflow efficiency.
• Drive improvements: Identify bottlenecks and support continuous improvement across production planning processes.
• Maintain planning records: Keep accurate schedules, material usage records and order-tracking information.
• Report performance: Generate reports on production performance, delivery adherence and resource utilisation.
• Uphold standards: Follow company policies, quality standards and safety regulations.

Who are they looking for?

• Relevant experience: At least 3 years of production planning experience in manufacturing; experience in sheet metal, stamping, machining or electrical assembly is preferred, while food and furniture backgrounds are outside the target scope.
• ERP/MRP expertise: Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and production scheduling tools to support reliable planning decisions.
• Manufacturing knowledge: Good understanding of manufacturing processes, lead times and capacity planning.
• Precision manufacturing exposure: Experience with precision manufacturing and assembly operations is advantageous.
• Process optimisation: Knowledge of DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and process optimisation is valued.
• Quality systems: Familiarity with ISO or quality management systems is beneficial.
• Language proficiency: Mandarin and English are required to support communication with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders across planning and manufacturing activities.
