Job summary

Spruson & Ferguson Asia is seeking a Patent Engineer in Kuala Lumpur to protect innovations across telecom, electrical, informatics, mechanical, and instrumentation fields. You will handle patent drafting, searches, translations, office actions, and prosecution domestically and abroad, contributing to our team’s global IP practice.

A Bachelor's or Master's degree and strong technical writing in English are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical, Informatics, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation, or related field.
• 1–3 years of experience writing peer‑reviewed papers in conferences/journals.
• Prior patent drafting, prior art search, office actions experience is advantageous.

• File and prosecute patent applications in related engineering fields.
• Support filing, searches, translations, responses to office actions, and prosecution domestically and abroad.
• Maintain timely documentation and coordinate with inventors and legal team.

As a Patent Engineer, you are passionate about protecting innovations, and will handle patent work including filing, searches, translations, and more. In this role, you will:

• Support the team in protecting innovations in the Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Informatics, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation, and related fields.
• Handle patent work across the patent prosecution process.
• Support patent filing, searches, translations, responses to office actions, and prosecution of patent applications in Philippines and abroad.

What You Bring

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Informatics, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related field.

• Ideally 1-3 years of experience in writing peer‑reviewed papers in conferences/journals.
• Prior experience in patent drafting, prior art search, handling office actions, or related areas would be a strong advantage.
• Strong technical writing skills in English, with clear and logical writing capabilities.
• Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and discipline in meeting deadlines.
