Job summary

EcoCeres in Malaysia is seeking an experienced Utilities/IETS Engineer to design and optimize complex utility systems and wastewater treatment processes. You will evaluate existing facilities, implement process controls, and lead improvement projects to boost efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

The role requires deep knowledge of utility systems, regulatory compliance, and strong collaboration with manufacturing and maintenance teams to ensure safe, reliable operations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize utility systems, including water supply, steam, cooling towers, and power distribution.
  • Oversee wastewater treatment facilities and ensure regulatory discharge standards are met.
  • Implement process monitoring to optimize performance and troubleshoot issues.
  • Ensure environmental compliance with permits, standards, and air emissions rules.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate utilities with manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for upgrades; raise MOC as needed.
  • Perform technical analysis and proactive monitoring to improve availability.
  • Develop maintenance programs to enhance reliability and performance of utilities.
  • Monitor system performance and minimize downtime; provide training to ops and maintenance.
  • Carry out inspections and audits to ensure safety and environmental compliance.
  • Develop operating procedures and guidelines for safe, efficient operations.
  • Train and mentor production staff on best practices and procedures.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
  • Prepare reports on Utilities & IETS performance with KPIs and improvement recommendations.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Utility System Design and Optimization: Design and optimize utility systems, including water supply, steam generation, cooling towers, and power distribution. Develop engineering solutions to enhance efficiency, reliability, and sustainability while minimizing resource consumption. Evaluate existing utility systems and identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Wastewater Treatment Management: Oversee the operation of wastewater treatment facilities, including primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment processes. Monitor effluent quality and ensure compliance with discharge permits and regulatory standards.
  • Process Monitoring and Control: Implement process control measures to optimize the performance of utility systems and wastewater treatment processes. Monitor key performance indicators, analyze data, and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal operation.
  • Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and standards related to water quality, wastewater discharge, and air emissions. Conduct environmental assessments and implement measures to minimize environmental impact.
  • Integrate and Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate utility systems with manufacturing processes and equipment; and to troubleshoot issues and implement solutions.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for utility system upgrades and projects; raise MOC to improve unit performance
  • Perform detailed technical analysis and perform pro‑active technical monitoring for optimization and improve availability
  • Develop and implement maintenance programs to ensure the reliability and performance of utility systems.
  • Monitor utility and IETS system performance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and disruptions.
  • Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance teams on utility system operation and maintenance.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards.
  • Develop and maintain operating procedures and guidelines to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Train and mentor production staff on best practices and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Participate or Lead in incident investigations and root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences.
  • Prepare reports on Utilities & IETS performance, including key performance indicators (KPIs) and recommendations for improvement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and minimum of 10 years proven experience as a Utilities/IETS Engineer similar role in an industrial setting; or Min. Diploma with 15 years experiences in the same context/background.
  • Steam Engineer Grade 2 or 1 would be an added advantage
  • CePietso – BP, CePietso-PCP would be an added advantage
  • Strong technical knowledge of utility systems, wastewater treatment processes, and environmental regulations
  • Experience with process design, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards for utility systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and tools for design and analysis.
