Job summary

Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd. seeks an experienced Engineer, WWTP to manage wastewater treatment across multiple manufacturing sites and ensure strict environmental compliance. You will guide plant teams, optimize processes, and drive standardization of SOPs and KPIs.

The role requires a strong background in environmental engineering or chemical processes, with proven experience in industrial WWTP operations and regulatory liaison. Travel between sites is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in industrial WWTP operations and 3 years in manufacturing.
• CePIETSO-BP & PCP certification is required.
• CePSWaM certification is an added advantage.
• Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 is beneficial.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Engineer, WWTP to oversee wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) operations and environmental compliance across our manufacturing sites. You will provide technical support to plant teams, ensure compliance with environmental regulations and drive WWTP process optimization, standardization, and continuous improvement across the Group.

Key Responsibilities:

WWTP Operations & Optimization

• Provide technical guidance to plant teams and department heads on WWTP operations, troubleshooting, and chemical dosing.
• Conduct regular site audits and spot-checks to monitor WWTP performance and effluent discharge.
• Perform jar testing, optimize chemical dosing, and identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
• Develop and standardize WWTP SOPs, best practices, and Group-level KPIs across manufacturing sites.
• Analyze WWTP performance and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Work with external consultants on WWTP upgrades, system improvements, designs, and project implementation.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with the Environmental Quality Act 1974 (EQA), Department of Environment (DOE), LUAS, and other applicable environmental requirements.
• Conduct environmental inspections covering effluent discharge, air emissions, scheduled waste management, noise levels, and other relevant environmental aspects.
• Maintain and strengthen the Group's environmental audit and compliance monitoring system.
• Act as a key liaison with DOE, LUAS, and other relevant regulatory authorities on environmental matters, permits, inspections, and regulatory queries.
• Monitor changes in environmental legislation and regulatory requirements and communicate relevant updates to stakeholders.
• Review and update relevant SOPs and practices to ensure continued regulatory compliance.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in industrial WWTP operations & 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Certified Environmental Professional in the Treatment of Industrial Effluent – Physical & Chemical Processes (CePIETSO-BP & PCP) is required.
• CePSWaM certification is an added advantage.
• Experience in WWTP consultancy, system upgrades, or project implementation is an advantage.
• Knowledge or experience in ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 is an added advantage.
• Strong knowledge of EQA 1974, DOE requirements, LUAS guidelines, and applicable industrial effluent and air emission standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in jar testing, chemical dosing, chemical loading calculations, and WWTP process optimization.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with plant teams, management, consultants, and regulatory authorities.
• Proactive, independent, structured, and solutions-oriented with strong integrity and accountability.
• Possess a valid driving license, own transportation & willing to travel between manufacturing sites as required.
