Job summary

Norman Process Oils Malaysia Plant Sdn Bhd is seeking a skilled IETS operator to manage daily plant operations, monitor biological and chemical processes, and ensure DOE compliance. You will perform routine lab tests, maintain logs, and uphold GMP and safety standards.

The role requires 2–5 years in wastewater treatment, proficiency in chemical dosing, basic automation, and fluency in Bahasa Malaysia with basic English for manuals and records.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Certificate in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or equivalent.
• 2–5 years experience operating industrial wastewater treatment plants.
• Proficient in chemical dosing calculations and basic automation concepts.
• Bahasa Malaysia fluency; basic English for manuals and logging.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor and optimize the IETS plant (biological and physical-chemical).
• Conduct daily water sampling and routine lab analysis (COD, pH, TSS, SVI).
• Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, blowers, motors, dosing systems.
• Maintain daily logs and DOE reporting data for compliance.
• Ensure GMP, 5S, and safe work practices when handling chemicals.

Job description

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the plant's Industrial Effluent Treatment System (IETS) consisting of both physical-chemical and biological processes. The primary objective is to ensure 100% compliance with the Department of Environment (DOE/JAS) regulations while supporting seamless manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Plant Operations: Operate and optimize the IETS plant, including biological processes (activated sludge/aeration) and physical-chemical treatments (clarifiers, DAF, filter press).

Laboratory Testing: Conduct daily water sampling and routine lab analysis (COD, pH, TSS, Jar Test, and Sludge Volume Index - SVI) to monitor treatment efficiency.

Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, troubleshooting, and basic servicing of plant equipment such as pumps, blowers, motors, and dosing systems.

Compliance & Logging: Maintain accurate daily log sheets, chemical consumption data, and operational records for internal auditing and DOE reporting.

Safety & GMP: Ensure strict adherence to Food Safety (GMP) standards, 5S housekeeping, and safe work practices, especially when handling chemicals or working in confined spaces.

Emergency Response: Demonstrate a strong sense of urgency in handling plant abnormalities or unexpected effluent discharge fluctuations to prevent environmental non-compliance.

Job Requirements (Must-Have Qualifications)

1. Professional Certifications (Mandatory)

CePIETSO (BP): Certified Environmental Professional in the Operation of Industrial Effluent Treatment Systems (Biological Processes) from EiMAS / DOE (JAS).

CePIETSO (PCP): Certified Environmental Professional in the Operation of Industrial Effluent Treatment Systems (Physical Chemical Processes) from EiMAS / DOE (JAS).

Note: Must hold a full Competent Person status.

Confined Space: Valid AESP (Authorised Entrant and Standby Person) certificate.

2. Education & Experience

Education: Diploma or Certificate in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Environmental Science, or an equivalent technical field.

Experience: Minimum 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience operating industrial wastewater treatment plants, preferably within the Food & Beverage (F&B), Oleochemical, or Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sectors.

Technical Skills: Proficient in mechanical pump troubleshooting, chemical dosing calculations, and basic automated control systems.

Languages: Proficient in Bahasa Malaysia; basic English proficiency is required for equipment manuals and system logging.
