Job summary

Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara seeks a Nurse Supervisor/Assistant Nurse Manager to lead the unit, ensuring adherence to policies and delivering high-quality nursing care. You will act as a clinical resource, mentor staff, and collaborate with medical colleagues on patient issues, while maintaining equipment readiness and infection control standards.

You will assist in staffing, training, performance appraisal, and meetings, contributing to annual targets and budget planning.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Nursing required.
• Must possess valid Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) for Nursing practice.
• Experience in leadership/mentorship roles preferred.
• Minimum 6 years of relevant experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Manage the unit in keeping with policies and procedures.
• Promote high standards in patient care and safety.
• Act as a resource with specialized clinical skills and mentorship for staff.
• Liaise with medical staff on patient-related issues.
• Ensure instruments/equipment are in good working order and staff are trained.
• Assist Nurse Manager in annual performance target planning and budgeting.
• Support staff rosters, leave planning, and equitable distribution of time off.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, errors and complaints using approved hospital processes.
• Maintain unit order and cleanliness and oversee supplies.

Job description

Nurse Supervisor / Assistant Nurse Manager

To manage the unit in keeping with the agreed policies and procedures.

To promote a high standard in the care and safety of the patients and in all techniques and practices.

To act as a resource person by providing specialized clinical skills, support and consultation to the nursing staff.

To liaise with medical and other staff concerning problems associated with patients.

To ensure that all required instruments and equipment are in good working order and that staff are familiar with their functions.

To ensure that immediate action is taken to rectify faulty and defective equipment.

To render professional nursing care as Staff Midwife, instruct patients and members of their families in techniques and methods of home care discharge.

To ensure that procedures with regard to infection control are understood and practiced by the team.

To assist the Nurse Manager in preparing annual performance targets for the Unit and to work within agreed budget.

To assist the Nurse Manager in preparing staff roster, work list and leave arrangement for the unit staff ensuring an even distribution of leave throughout the year.

To assist the Nurse Manager to investigate incidents, accidents errors and complaints using the agreed hospital documentation.

To establish good order and cleanliness in the Unit.

To maintain Unit supplies and equipment requisitioning through proper channels.

To ensure visiting policies are followed.

To observe all pertinent charging procedures and to train staff appropriately in these.

To keep the Senior Nurse Manager informed of significant changes or specific matters relating to staff and the Unit.

To participate in performance appraisal of staff.

To attend appropriate meetings on a regular basis.

To participate towards staff development programmes and to provide on-the-spot education on training when necessary.

JOB REQUIREMENT

Degree / Diploma in Nursing.

Possess valid Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) for Nursing practice.

Prior experience in Leadership / Mentorship role.

Minimum6 years relevant working experience as Registered Nurse, preferably in hospital environment.
