Job summary

Jora Malaysia is seeking an experienced Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer to lead NPI activities from prototype to mass production. You will review drawings, assess DFMA opportunities, and establish robust sheet metal manufacturing processes.

You will prepare BOMs, routings, flow diagrams and production docs while collaborating with tooling, engineering and quality teams. The role requires 2–5 years in NPI or manufacturing engineering, strong CAD skills (SolidWorks/AutoCAD) and hands-on

Qualifications

  • Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in NPI, Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering or Product Engineering, preferably within the sheet metal / metal fabrication industry.
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal manufacturing processes, particularly laser cutting, CNC bending and welding.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of DFM/DFA principles and manufacturing process development.
  • Experience in troubleshooting dimensional, process and production issues.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD / 2D CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD or equivalent.
  • Experience with NPI documentation, FAI, BOM, routing and work instructions is an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of measurement tools and dimensional inspection.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical and project coordination skills.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Willing to be hands-on and work closely with the production floor.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate New Product Introduction (NPI) activities from prototype, pilot run through mass production.
  • Review customer drawings, specifications and technical requirements for sheet metal components and assemblies.
  • Evaluate product designs for Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and provide feedback to improve manufacturability, cost and production efficiency.
  • Develop and establish suitable manufacturing processes for sheet metal products.
  • Prepare and review process flow, work instructions, BOM, routing and production documentation.
  • Coordinate processes involving: Laser cutting, CNC bending / press brake, Punching, Welding, Powder coating / surface finishing.
  • Work with production teams to conduct trial runs, pilot builds and first-piece validation.
  • Identify and resolve manufacturing issues during prototype and pilot production.
  • Coordinate with Tooling / Engineering teams on jigs, fixtures, bending tools and other production aids.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for NPI-related issues.
  • Work closely with Quality to ensure new products meet dimensional, functional and customer quality requirements.
  • Support FAI / First Article Inspection, sample submission and customer approval activities where required.
  • Monitor NPI project schedules and ensure projects are delivered according to agreed timelines.
  • Review production performance and implement improvements to yield, cycle time, productivity and manufacturing cost.
  • Support Engineering Change Orders (ECO), drawing revisions and process changes.
  • Provide technical support to Production during the transition from NPI to mass production.
  • Ensure new products are successfully transferred to production with stable and repeatable processes.
