We are seeking a motivated and technically capable L1 Network Engineer to provide onsite network monitoring, first-level troubleshooting, and technical support at our client site in Selangor, Malaysia.
The ideal candidate will have basic hands-on experience in network monitoring, routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, and network troubleshooting. Exposure to Fortinet/FortiGate and Palo Alto Networks technologies is highly preferred.
The engineer will be responsible for monitoring network infrastructure, responding to alerts and incidents, performing initial troubleshooting, resolving L1 issues, and escalating complex problems to L2/L3 teams when required.
Monitor network infrastructure, devices, links, and connectivity using network monitoring tools.
Handle L1 network incidents, service requests, and alerts within defined SLAs.
Perform initial troubleshooting of network connectivity, LAN, WAN, internet, and VPN issues.
Troubleshoot basic routing and switching issues involving VLANs, ports, interfaces, and connectivity.
Perform basic firewall monitoring and troubleshooting.
Support Fortinet/FortiGate and Palo Alto firewall environments.
Assist with basic firewall policy, NAT, VPN, and connectivity troubleshooting under appropriate guidance.
Monitor network performance, availability, and device health.
Identify network outages and connectivity issues and elevate them to L2/L3 teams when required.
Perform basic network device checks and configuration activities as per approved procedures.
Support planned network changes, maintenance activities, upgrades, and migrations.
Monitor WAN, MPLS, internet, ISP, and VPN connectivity.
Coordinate with ISPs and vendors for circuit and connectivity-related issues.
Maintain accurate incident records, tickets, troubleshooting steps, and resolution details.
Follow SOPs, runbooks, escalation procedures, and operational guidelines.
Maintain network documentation and update relevant operational records.
Provide timely updates to internal teams and stakeholders regarding incidents and outages.
Support onsite activities during critical incidents and planned maintenance windows.
Collaborate with L2/L3 Network, Security, Cloud, and Infrastructure teams.
Provide after-hours/weekend support during planned maintenance or critical incidents when required.

Exposure to MPLS, WAN, internet, and ISP connectivity.
Knowledge of Cisco SD-WAN is an advantage.
Exposure to Peplink or VMware VeloCloud is an added advantage.
Experience with network monitoring and alert management.
Exposure to tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG Network Monitor, or similar tools.
Ability to identify network device, interface, link, and connectivity alerts.
Experience working with ticketing and incident management systems.
Basic understanding of network security concepts.
Basic understanding of load balancers such as F5 or Citrix is an advantage.
Understanding of enterprise LAN/WAN infrastructure.
Basic knowledge of network troubleshooting tools such as ping, traceroute, nslookup, and similar utilities.
Receive and acknowledge network alerts and incidents.
Perform first-level investigation and troubleshooting.
Follow defined troubleshooting checklists and SOPs.
Resolve issues within L1 scope wherever possible.
Escalate unresolved or complex incidents to L2/L3 teams with complete troubleshooting information.
Maintain accurate incident and ticket documentation.
Follow SLA, escalation, and communication procedures.
Act as an onsite first-level technical contact for network support activities.
Coordinate with L2/L3 network and security teams for issue resolution.
Liaise with ISPs and service providers for connectivity-related incidents.
Coordinate with OEM vendors when required.
Provide timely status updates on incidents, outages, and planned activities.
1–3 years of experience in Network Engineering, Network Operations, NOC, or Network Support.
Basic hands-on experience with enterprise networking environments.
Good understanding of routing, switching, VLANs, and IP networking.
Exposure to firewalls and VPN technologies.
Experience or exposure to Fortinet/FortiGate and/or Palo Alto Networks is highly preferred.
Experience with network monitoring tools is preferred.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Good communication and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently in an onsite client environment.
Willingness to work in shifts or provide after-hours/weekend support when required.
Ability to follow SOPs, runbooks, escalation procedures, and change-management processes.
