We are seeking a mid-level Mechanical Project Engineer (Piping, Structure & Static Equipment) to be based at our Johor Bahru site office. In this role, you will lead the technical and commercial lifecycle of oil and gas piping and structural packages from early-stage bid preparation through to fabrication and site delivery. The ideal candidate possesses strong structural and process piping technical knowledge, combined with the commercial acumen required to conduct local or regional site field surveys and deliver precise project quotations.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive on-site inspections, brownfield dimensions auditing, and field walkdowns at fabrication yards and plants across the Southern Region to identify layout routing, piping tie‑in points, and structural support requirements.
- Study client tender documents, evaluate Material Take‑Offs (MTOs) for structural steel and piping components, draft engineering man‑hour estimates, and prepare final technical‑commercial quotations.
- Manage day‑to‑day project workflows, tracking schedules, resource allotments, and fabrication budgets to ensure strict adherence to oil and gas capital project requirements.
- Review piping isometrics, P&ID, Layout and structural steel structures to identify potential interdisciplinary clashes before fabrication.
- Prepare technical specifications, draft datasheets for valves/fittings, and execute Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE) to assess vendor offerings against client requirements.
- Supervise piping fabrication and structural erection in workshops or project sites, overseeing critical milestones such as welding alignment, non‑destructive testing (NDT), hydro‑testing, and final structural punch‑list closures.
About you
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Structural Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Approximately 3 years of relevant project engineering experience focusing specifically on piping systems, pipe racks, and structural modules within the Oil & Gas or Petrochemical sector.
- Proven capability in preparing engineering project costing and bidding documentation.
- Sound understanding of international codes and standards relevant to oil and gas, specifically ASME B31.3 (Process Piping), ASME Section IX (Welding), and AISC (Structural Steel Layouts).
- Proficiency in engineering software and 3D design viewers (e.g., Navisworks, AutoCAD).
- Valid driving license and own transport for frequent site visits to surrounding industrial areas.
- Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
- Deep familiarity with hazardous industry site protocols, permit‑to‑work (PTW) frameworks, and confined space safety rules.
