Job summary

SSI SCHAEFER in Malaysia seeks a Mechanical Maintenance Specialist to oversee the production line maintenance, environmental compliance, and optimization of effluent treatment systems and mechanical equipment across the facility.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years hands-on experience in mechanical system maintenance. You will be responsible for equipment maintenance workflow, troubleshooting, and timely repairs, collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.
• 3–5 years hands-on experience in mechanical system maintenance and machinery.
• Proven experience in mechanical scope, testing and fault finding.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Run and maintain physical-chemical treatment equipment and dosing systems.
• Conduct sampling, in-situ measurements and basic lab tests.
• Ensure compliance with Environmental Quality Act standards.
• Submit effluent performance monitoring reports to management and authorities.
• Manage chemical stocks, lab supplies and spare parts.
• Repair mechanical systems and perform on-the-spot repairs.
• Troubleshoot malfunctions and recommend upgrades.
• Test new and existing systems to ensure optimal operation.
• Inspect, repair, and maintain electrical mechanical equipment.
• Install, operate, and maintain production equipment.

What this role entails:

Responsible for all aspects of the production line maintenance task troubleshooting, equipment maintenance workflow. This role combines environmental compliance expertise with mechanical engineering responsibilities, overseeing the operation, maintenance, and optimization of industrial effluent treatment systems and mechanical equipment across the facility.

Key responsibilities

Run and maintain physical-chemical treatment equipment, chemical dosing systems, and instrumentation

Conduct regular sampling, in-situ measurements, and basic laboratory tests to track efficiency

Ensure plant output meets the Environmental Quality Act standards and prevent legal non-compliance

Prepare and submit mandatory effluent performance monitoring reports to management and environmental authorities

Manage chemical stocks, lab supplies, and spare parts required for the treatment plant

Repair mechanical systems and act quickly to make on-the-spot repairs when mechanical systems and machinery malfunction

Troubleshoot malfunctions of mechanical systems, make inspections and assess potential problems, and recommend changes or upgrades to increase productivity and functionality

Perform regular tests to new and existing mechanical systems, equipment, and machinery to spot potential problems and ensure systems are operating at their highest possible levels of functionality

Inspect, repair, replace, adjust, install, wire and maintain electrical mechanical equipment in the plant or assigned area

Installation, operation, relocation, and maintenance of all production equipment

About you

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred

Minimum of 3-5 years hands-on experience in mechanical system maintenance and machinery

Proven experience in mechanical scope, testing and fault finding

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in a timely manner

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders

Intermediate computer literacy including use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point

Completion of the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or the Malaysian Certificate of Education

Certified Environmental Professional in Operation of Industrial Effluent Treatment Systems (CePIETSO-PCP)
