Job summary

SSI SCHAEFER in Malaysia seeks a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to oversee the production line maintenance and environmental compliance within our intralogistics operations.

You will manage treatment systems, perform routine equipment checks, troubleshoot faults, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize performance and minimize downtime. A strong background in mechanical engineering and hands-on maintenance is essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance.
• CePIETSO-PCP certification preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

What this role entails:

Responsible for all aspects of the production line maintenance task troubleshooting, equipment maintenance workflow. This role combines environmental compliance expertise with mechanical engineering responsibilities, overseeing the operation, maintenance, and optimization of industrial effluent treatment systems and mechanical equipment across the facility.

Key responsibilities

• Run and maintain physical-chemical treatment equipment, chemical dosing systems, and instrumentation
• Conduct regular sampling, in-situ measurements, and basic laboratory tests to track efficiency
• Ensure plant output meets the Environmental Quality Act standards and prevent legal non-compliance
• Prepare and submit mandatory effluent performance monitoring reports to management and environmental authorities
• Manage chemical stocks, lab supplies, and spare parts required for the treatment plant
• Repair mechanical systems and act quickly to make on-the-spot repairs when mechanical systems and machinery malfunction
• Troubleshoot malfunctions of mechanical systems, make inspections and assess potential problems, and recommend changes or upgrades to increase productivity and functionality
• Perform regular tests to new and existing mechanical systems, equipment, and machinery to spot potential problems and ensure systems are operating at their highest possible levels of functionality
• Inspect, repair, replace, adjust, install, wire and maintain electrical mechanical equipment in the plant or assigned area
• Installation, operation, relocation, and maintenance of all production equipment

About you

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred
• Minimum of 3-5 years hands-on experience in mechanical system maintenance and machinery
• Proven experience in mechanical scope, testing and fault finding
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in a timely manner
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
• Intermediate computer literacy including use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
• Completion of the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or the Malaysian Certificate of Education
• Certified Environmental Professional in Operation of Industrial Effluent Treatment Systems (CePIETSO-PCP)
