Job summary

Alam Aliran Kualiti (m) Sdn. Bhd. is seeking a seasoned Process Engineer to design, optimize and manage scheduled waste treatment, wastewater processes and environmental compliance. You will review SOPs, analyze data and drive improvement projects across multiple plant operations.

The role involves coordinating with regulatory bodies, supporting plant expansions and leading R&D efforts in resource recovery while ensuring safety and quality across all activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering and familiarity with DOE regulations is required.
  • Experience or eligibility for BEM registration is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical engineering principles and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, evaluate and improve scheduled waste treatment and recovery processes.
  • Optimize chemical treatment operations to improve productivity and reduce costs.
  • Develop and review SOPs and work instructions.
  • Analyze production data and recommend process improvements.
  • Monitor process parameters for consistent performance.
  • Identify opportunities for waste minimization and resource recovery.
  • Evaluate and classify scheduled waste per DOE regulations.
  • Develop chemical treatment formulations and operating parameters.
  • Monitor waste storage requirements and compatibility.
  • Support waste profiling and disposal procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental Quality Act 1974 and related regulations.
  • Prepare environmental reports and conduct internal/external audits.
  • Monitor Industrial Effluent Treatment Systems and wastewater processes.
  • Troubleshoot treatment plant issues and optimize dosing systems.
  • Provide technical guidance to operations and assist commissioning of new equipment.
  • Participate in plant expansion, prepare technical specs and coordinate with vendors.
  • Develop R&D projects for waste recovery and recycling.
  • Review lab analyses, interpret results, and support waste characterization.
  • Promote health, safety and environmental practices and PPE usage.
  • Support ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 implementations and documentation.
  • Prepare engineering reports, process records and KPIs; present findings to management.

Job description

Role & responsibilities
A.Process Engineering & Optimization
  • a) Design, evaluate, and improve scheduled waste treatment and recovery processes.
  • b) Optimize chemical treatment operations to improve productivity and reduce operational costs.
  • c) Develop and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
  • d) Analyze production data and recommend process improvements.
  • e) Monitor process parameters and ensure consistent operating performance.
  • f) Identify opportunities for waste minimization and resource recovery.
B.Scheduled Waste Management
  • a) Evaluate and classify scheduled waste based on DOE regulations.
  • b) Recommend suitable treatment, recovery, recycling, or disposal methods.
  • c) Develop chemical treatment formulations and operating parameters.
  • d) Monitor waste compatibility and storage requirements.
  • e) Support waste profiling and waste acceptance procedures.
  • f) Ensure proper segregation, handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of scheduled waste.
C. Environmental Compliance
  • a) Ensure full compliance with the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005.
  • b) Liaise with the Department of Environment (DOE) and other regulatory authorities.
  • c) Prepare environmental reports and technical documentation.
  • d) Support internal and external compliance audits.
  • e) Maintain all environmental records and documentation.
D. Wastewater & Treatment Plant Operations
  • a) Monitor Industrial Effluent Treatment Systems (IETS).
  • b) Optimize wastewater treatment processes.
  • c) Troubleshoot treatment plant operational issues.
  • d) Monitor chemical dosing systems.
  • e) Ensure treated discharge complies with regulatory standards.
  • f) Recommend process improvements to improve treatment efficiency.
E. Plant Operations Support
  • a) Provide technical guidance to operations personnel.
  • b) Assist production teams in solving process-related issues.
  • c) Support commissioning of new equipment and systems.
  • d) Evaluate plant performance and recommend corrective actions.
  • e) Assist maintenance teams in resolving equipment problems.
F. Project Engineering
  • a) Participate in plant expansion and engineering projects.
  • b) Prepare technical specifications and engineering calculations.
  • c) Coordinate with suppliers, consultants, and contractors.
  • d) Monitor project progress and ensure timely completion.
  • e) Support equipment installation, testing, and commissioning.
G. Research & Development (R&D)
  • a) Develop innovative waste recovery technologies.
  • b) Conduct laboratory and pilot-scale trials.
  • c) Improve recycling and resource recovery methods.
  • d) Evaluate new treatment chemicals and technologies.
  • e) Support development of environmentally sustainable solutions.
H. Laboratory & Technical Support
  • a) Review laboratory analysis reports.
  • b) Interpret chemical analysis results.
  • c) Support waste characterization studies.
  • d) Assist in troubleshooting laboratory issues.
  • e) Ensure laboratory testing supports operational requirements.
I. Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)
  • a) Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
  • b) Conduct Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and risk assessments.
  • c) Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) requirements.
  • d) Participate in emergency response planning.
  • e) Investigate process-related incidents and recommend corrective actions.
  • f) Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
J. Quality Management
  • a) Support implementation of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 Management Systems.
  • b) Monitor quality performance indicators.
  • c) Develop continuous improvement initiatives.
  • d) Ensure engineering documentation is properly controlled.
K. Reporting & Documentation
  • a) Prepare engineering reports and technical presentations.
  • b) Maintain process records and engineering documentation.
  • c) Prepare monthly operational performance reports.
  • d) Analyze production trends and KPIs.
  • e) Present technical recommendations to Management.
3. Requirements / Qualifications
  • a) Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • b) Registered or eligible for registration with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) is an advantage.
  • c) Minimum 25 years of relevant working experience in manufacturing, chemical processing, environmental services, or scheduled waste management.
  • d) Fresh graduates with excellent academic results and strong technical competency are encouraged to apply.
  • e) Good understanding of chemical engineering principles.
  • f) Knowledge of scheduled waste regulations and environmental legislation.
  • g) Experience in wastewater treatment or industrial treatment systems is an advantage.
  • h) Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • i) Knowledge of engineering software such as AutoCAD, Aspen HYSYS, j)AutoCAD Plant 3D, or similar software is an added advantage.

  • a) Experience in DOE Licensed Scheduled Waste Facilities.
  • b) Certified Environmental Professional in Scheduled Waste Management (CePSWaM).
  • c) Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
