KORRELL INDUSTRIES SDN BHD is seeking a practical, hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer with strong sheet metal engineering expertise to join its rapidly expanding team in Malaysia. You will develop sheet metal components, fabricated assemblies and complete industrial machinery using SolidWorks, focusing on bending, flat patterns and fabrication-ready drawings.
The role requires experience in designing machinery, enclosures, hoppers and fixtures, plus knowledge of fabrication methods,
KORRELL INDUSTRIES SDN BHD
Korrell Industries Sdn Bhd is a rapidly growing engineering and manufacturing company specialising in industrial machinery, material handling systems, biomass processing equipment, precision metal fabrication and custom engineering solutions.
With our expanding in-house manufacturing capabilities, including plate laser cutting, tube laser cutting, CNC bending, machining and welding, we are looking for an experienced and hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer specialising in Sheet Metal & Machinery Design.
The successful candidate will play an important role in developing sheet metal components, fabricated assemblies and complete industrial machinery using SolidWorks.
This position requires an engineer with strong practical knowledge of sheet metal design, bending, flat pattern development, fabrication methods and mechanical assembly design.
While sheet metal engineering will be a major part of the role, the candidate must also be capable of developing machinery, mechanical structures and equipment assemblies.
This is a hands-on engineering design position, not a purely supervisory, drafting or drawing-review role.
As Korrell continues to expand, capable engineers will have opportunities to take on greater technical responsibility, project ownership and leadership roles.
Independently develop 3D sheet metal parts and assemblies using SolidWorks Sheet Metal.
Design sheet metal components including:
Machinery enclosures and covers
Hoppers, chutes and transition pieces
Equipment housings and casings
Ducting and ventilation components
Industrial tanks and fabricated containers
Machine guards and protective panels
Brackets, mounting plates and structural supports
Complex folded and welded sheet metal assemblies
Develop accurate flat patterns and DXF files suitable for laser cutting.
Apply correct bend allowances, bend deductions, K-factors, bend radii and material thicknesses.
Understand and account for bend sequences, tooling limitations, minimum flange lengths and manufacturing clearances.
Design complex sheet metal components with consideration for actual fabrication and assembly requirements.
Optimise sheet metal designs to reduce unnecessary welding, bending operations, material wastage and fabrication costs.
Ensure designs are practical for production using our in-house laser cutting and bending equipment.
Develop complete 3D machinery designs and assemblies using SolidWorks.
Design and develop equipment such as:
Screw conveyors
Industrial drying systems
Structural frames and supports
Design mechanical components and assemblies involving shafts, bearings, motors, gearboxes, chains, sprockets and other power transmission components.
Perform engineering calculations for mechanical components and equipment.
Ensure machinery designs are practical, reliable, safe and suitable for actual operating conditions.
Modify, improve and troubleshoot existing machinery designs.
Handle large assemblies involving multiple interconnected mechanical components and fabricated structures.
Prepare accurate and complete engineering drawings, including:
General Arrangement (GA) drawings
Sheet metal fabrication drawings
Flat pattern drawings
Laser cutting DXF files
Welding and fabrication drawings
Mechanical assembly drawings
Structural fabrication drawings
Detailed component drawings
Installation drawings
Bill of Materials (BOM)
Ensure drawings contain sufficient dimensions, tolerances, material specifications and manufacturing information for production.
Verify part fitment, bending requirements, hole alignment, assembly clearances and dimensional accuracy before releasing drawings for fabrication.
Maintain proper drawing revisions and engineering documentation.
Work closely with our in-house manufacturing team and develop designs suitable for:
CNC press brake bending
Machining
MIG and TIG welding
Robotic welding
Mechanical assembly
Understand the practical capabilities and limitations of manufacturing equipment.
Develop designs that minimise unnecessary production processes while maintaining structural integrity, functionality and quality.
Identify potential fabrication problems before production begins.
Continuously improve designs to achieve better material utilisation, shorter fabrication times and lower manufacturing costs.
Coordinate with fabrication personnel to ensure designs can be manufactured accurately.
Provide technical clarification and resolve fabrication-related problems.
Conduct physical measurements of existing machinery and equipment when necessary.
Support machinery assembly, installation and commissioning.
Modify designs to accommodate actual site and production conditions.
Work with the engineering team to ensure projects meet technical requirements and delivery schedules.
Participate in design reviews and propose practical engineering improvements.
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Preferably 5 years or more of relevant mechanical design experience.
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, particularly SolidWorks Sheet Metal, is essential.
Proven hands-on experience designing sheet metal components and fabricated assemblies.
Able to independently develop accurate flat patterns and fabrication drawings.
Good understanding of:
Bend allowances and K-factors
Laser cutting processes
CNC press brake operations
Welding and assembly methods
Mechanical components and machinery
Able to develop complete 3D mechanical assemblies, not just individual sheet metal parts.
Able to understand how parts will be manufactured, bent, welded, assembled and installed.
Strong attention to dimensional accuracy, tolerances and manufacturing feasibility.
Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong problem-solving skills and practical engineering judgement.
Able to manage multiple engineering tasks and meet agreed deadlines.
Experience in any of the following will be an advantage:
Precision sheet metal fabrication
Industrial machinery manufacturing
Laser cutting and CNC bending
Complex sheet metal assemblies
Equipment enclosures and fabricated housings
Hoppers, chutes and ducting systems
Conveyor and material handling equipment
Industrial tanks and process equipment
Machinery structures and welded assemblies
Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
Machinery installation and commissioning
Experience working directly with a laser cutting, CNC bending or metal fabrication workshop will be highly valued.
We are looking for a practical, hands-on mechanical design engineer with strong sheet metal engineering expertise.
You should be comfortable developing a sheet metal component in SolidWorks, preparing its flat pattern, understanding how it will be laser cut and bent, and ensuring it fits correctly during assembly.
At the same time, you should be capable of understanding complete machinery systems and designing mechanical equipment beyond individual sheet metal components.
We value engineers who can think beyond the computer screen and understand how their designs will actually be manufactured.
The ideal candidate should be able to take a design requirement through:
We are particularly interested in engineers who can identify manufacturing problems before fabrication begins, improve design efficiency and develop practical solutions independently.
