Job summary

Orbit Manufacturing Sdn Bhd is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop and modify mechanical designs, assemblies and machine layouts, and prepare BOMs. You will work closely with production, project, electrical and service teams to meet customer specs and project timelines.

The role requires a diploma/degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics/Manufacturing Engineering and 2–4 years of relevant experience, with proficiency in AutoCAD and Inventor. Travel to customer sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering or a related field.
• 2-4 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, machinery, automation, robotics or a related engineering environment.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Inventor.
• Understanding of mechanical design, engineering drawings, GD&T, materials, fabrication and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Knowledge of motors, bearings, gears, pneumatics, linear guides, conveyors and sensors is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites when required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and modify mechanical designs, assemblies, components and machine layouts.
• Prepare 3D models, engineering drawings, fabrication drawings and Bills of Materials (BOM).
• Perform design calculations and review technical requirements.
• Improve machine functionality, reliability, safety and cost-effectiveness.
• Support fabrication, assembly, installation, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting.
• Liaise with suppliers to evaluate components, materials and technical solutions.
• Conduct design reviews and incorporate project requirements and site feedback.
• Maintain updated engineering drawings and documentation.
• Identify design risks and recommend practical solutions.
• Ensure compliance with applicable safety, quality and engineering standards.
