Job summary

Agilent Technologies in Malaysia is seeking a Materials Engineer to source and qualify engineering materials for electronics components and OEMs. You will improve supplier part quality, support NPI and product transfer, and assist manufacturing with material-related issues.

You will evaluate substitutes to cut costs while maintaining quality, interpret specifications, and work with suppliers to drive quality improvements in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical & Engineering, Mechatronics, Materials Engineering Sciences or equivalent.
• 3–5 years of related experience.
• Excellent communication and ability to collaborate across levels.
• Flexible to switch roles, meet tight deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support interpreting specifications, evaluating documentation, and training on inspection equipment.
• Plan inspection and test requirements to assess incoming piece-parts quality.
• Analyze inspection and test data; feedback on quality issues with suppliers.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives with suppliers.
• Lead sourcing for substitute materials to reduce costs while ensuring supply/quality.
• Assist manufacturing in disposition of non-conforming materials.

Job Description

Materials Engineer sources for engineering materials related to Electronics Components / OEM

; to improve the quality of suppliers' piece-parts in the area of responsibility. Identifies and evaluates alternative materials or suppliers to maintain competitive quality, assurance of supply and/or pricing of piece-parts. Provide technical support for NPI (New Product Introduction) & Product Transfer. Assists manufacturing in resolving material related issues, and also provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Provides technical support in terms of specification interpretation, adequacy of existing documentation, disposition of non-conforming materials, and training on the usage of all inspection measuring equipment.
• Identifies and plans for inspection and test requirements needed for adequate assessment of the quality of incoming piece-parts.
• Analyzes inspection, evaluation and test data. Feedback quality performance and follow-up on quality issues with suppliers.
• Active involvement in quality improvement program with suppliers.
• Leads in sourcing for substitute/ alternative materials to achieve cost savings, ensuring assurance of supply and / or improve quality of piece-parts.
• Assists manufacturing in evaluating material related issues to ensure correct disposition of non-conformance materials.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical & Engineering, Mechatronics, Materials Engineering Sciences or equivalent with minimum 3-5 years related experience.
• Excellent communication skills and able to work with all levels.
• Flexible in switching roles, responsibility & new task when needed.
• A desire to work under aggressive deadlines, fast paced & collaborate environment.
• Resourcefulness, attention to details, demonstrate sound analysis skill and offering solutions.
