Job summary

AmBank Group is seeking an experienced AS/400/IBM i RPG specialist to own and evolve the Broking System, ensuring stability and seamless integration with related interfaces. You will provide day‑to‑day support for Equities Trading systems like eAMS, MAS, and AMSMART in a high‑volume environment.

You will lead RPG design and maintenance, coordinate SIT/UAT, and manage batch processing while implementing Bursa regulatory changes and cross‑system interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Support and enhance the Broking System, ensuring stability and integration with interfaces.
• Provide day-to-day application support for Equities Trading systems (eAMS, MAS, AMSMART).
• Design, develop, maintain RPG applications using RPG III/IV and modernize legacy code.
• Own architecture decisions, data model changes, and program structure.
• Support trade lifecycle processes, margin calls, settlements, and fees calculations.
• Handle end-of-period batch processing and ensure timely generation and settlement.
• Implement regulatory and Bursa-rule changes and manage interfaces via MQ/file-based integration.
• L2/L3 production support, on-call rotation, incident diagnosis, and post-mortems.
• Coordinate SIT/UAT, system migrations, and work with Change Management and IMG.

Job description

Directly responsible for the enhancement and support of the Broking System, with a focus on ensuring stability and seamless integration across Broking applications. Key responsibilities include:

• 1. Providing day-to-day application support for Equities Trading systems used by AmInvestment Bank, specifically the IB Equity Back-Office System (eAMS), Margin Application System (MAS & AMSMART), and all related internal and external system interfaces.

• 2. Participating in Group-level projects involving RPG-based applications, i.e. eAMS , MAS and AMSMART.

• 3. Enhancing the Broking System to ensure seamless integration with other source systems and to improve operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

A. Core System Ownership & Criticality

• 1. Responsible for supporting the BNM RMIT mission-critical Broking System, which serves as the system of record for all broking transactions and supports downstream integrations including trade capture, settlement, margining, corporate actions, GL posting, and regulatory reporting.

• 2. Ensure the Broking System remains fully functional and available during trading hours, as any downtime may result in significant financial and regulatory impact.

B. AS/400 RPG Development Responsibilities

• 1. Design, develop, maintain, and enhance existing RPG applications using RPG III and RPG IV (RPG/LE and Free-Format).

• 2. Develop new programs based on business requirements, update legacy code with minimal documentation, and refactor or modernize existing RPG components.

• 3. Exercise technical decision-making authority, including defining program architecture, code structure, and data model changes.

C. Broking & Core-Banking‑Equivalent Complexity

• 1. Support broking business operations through code enhancements covering trade lifecycle processes, margin calls, forced sell-down activities, corporate actions, and the calculation of fees, commissions, and interest.

• 2. Provide support for end-of-day, end-of-month, and end-of-financial-year batch processing activities.

• 3. Ensure strict adherence to cut-off time requirements to guarantee timely contract generation, CDS settlement, and completion of end-of-day batches before the next trading session begins.

• 4. Implement and support regulatory and exchange-mandated changes, including updates arising from Bursa rule amendments.

D. Integration & Interfaces

• 1. Assist in ensuring overall system health and data integrity—via file‑based and MQ integrations—across all interfacing parties, including:

  Trading front ends: Equity Broking, Equity Institutional, Futures Broking, Equity Derivatives, Foreign Equity Trading

  External exchanges (e.g. Bursa Malaysia) – StarCDS (CDS account opening/updates), eFIX (CDS settlement files)

  RBBS (client account opening, client/portfolio retrieval, cash withdrawal, etc.)

  Omgeo (Institutional trade confirmation)

  Securities Borrowing & Lending (SBL)

  M21 & Ovex (Futures Broking back-office systems)

  AMIB CCRIS (BNM CCRIS reporting for Share Margin accounts)

• 2. Work with team leader in designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting system interfaces, including error handling, integration logic, and issue resolution across all interfacing systems.

• 1. Serve as part of the L2/L3 production support team in addition to project delivery responsibilities, including participation in an on-call rotation.

• 2. Diagnose code-level issues and implement emergency fixes (if needed) when production incidents occur during trading hours or batch job processing.

• 3. Support post-mortem reviews and root-cause analysis to prevent recurrence of production issues.

F. Project & Change Responsibilities

• 1. Work with Team Leader in system design and effort estimation for RPG-related changes within project initiatives.

• 2. Oversee System Integration Testing (SIT), coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and troubleshoot system issues identified during SIT, UAT, and production.

• 3. Coordinate and manage system migration activities in collaboration with the Change Management team, Infrastructure Management Group (IMG), and Database Administrators.

Qualifications & Skills (including mandated licenses where applicable)

A. AS/400 / IBM i Technical Skills

• 1. Proficient in using DB2/400, CL programs, and job scheduling tools.

B. RPG Development Skills

• 1. Dedicated approximately 70% of time to hands‑on RPG development, with the remaining 30% focused on coordination and support activities.

• 2. Work with Team Leader in analyzing business requirements and translate them into robust RPG program logic.

• 3. Maintain complex business rules embedded within legacy codebases and occasionally handle high‑risk changes, such as margin calculations and settlement rule updates.

C. Broking Domain Knowledge / Non-Functional & Control Skills

• 1. Deep understating of Equity, Derivatives products, margin financing & settlement cycles.

D. Qualifications & Experience

• 1. 20 years of IT experience in Application Development and Application Support.

  15 years of hands‑on development experience in RPG, including system integration with other platforms.

  15 years of application support experience on the AS/400 (IBM i) platform.

• 2. Additional Advantages

  20 years of experience supporting Broking Application Systems in the financial services domain.

  20 years of domain knowledge in Equities and Derivatives market operations.

• 3. Education

  Bachelor's degree or higher in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
