Job summary

SAM Engineering & Equipment (M) Bhd in Penang/Simpang Ampat seeks a Maintenance Engineer with an electrical background to maintain and optimize CNC machines, including milling, turning, grinding, and EDM systems. You will work with FANUC, Siemens and other controllers, driving uptime and reliability.

The role requires hands-on experience in preventive maintenance, root-cause analysis, calibration, and process improvements, with a proactive approach to safety and equipment integrity.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of hands-on CNC machining workshop experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules for CNC machines.
• Perform lubrication, alignment checks, cleaning, and calibration.
• Monitor machine performance and predict potential failures.
• Diagnose electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on CNC equipment.
• Repair spindles, servo motors, ball screws, tool changers and control panels.
• Minimize downtime by responding quickly to breakdowns.
• Maintain CNC controllers and back up machine parameters and programs.
• Support lean manufacturing and TPM initiatives.

Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Background)

• Experienced CNC Maintenance Engineer with 5 years of hands‑on expertise in maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing CNC machines including milling, turning, grinding, and EDM systems.

Strong command of FANUC, Siemens, other major CNC controllers. Proven success in reducing downtime through effective preventive maintenance, root‑cause analysis, calibration, and process improvements.

Skilled in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, with a strong focus on precision, safety, and equipment reliability.

A proactive team player who supports lean manufacturing, TPM, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Roles And Responsibilities

• Preventive Maintenance (PM)
• Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules for CNC machines
• Perform periodic lubrication, alignment checks, cleaning, and calibration.
• Monitor machine performance and predict potential failures.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on CNC equipment.
• Repair faulty components such as: Spindles /Servo motors /Ball screws /Tool changers /Control panels
• Minimize machine downtime by responding quickly to breakdowns.
• CNC Control Systems & Software
• Maintain and troubleshoot CNC controllers: FANUC, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Haas, Mazak, etc.
• Update/backup machine parameters and programs.
• Calibrate control system settings when required.
• Perform laser calibration, ball bar tests, and leveling to ensure machining accuracy.
• Adjust backlash compensation, encoder values, tool offsets, etc.
• Spare Parts & Inventory Management
• Identify and manage critical spare parts.
• Coordinate with suppliers for ordering and repairing specialized components.
• Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain accurate records for: SAM PRESICION (M) SDN BHD
• Breakdown reports
• Prepare maintenance performance reports for management.
• Safety & Compliance
• Ensure all CNC machines comply with safety standards.
• Train operators on safe machine usage and basic troubleshooting.
• Analyze repetitive breakdowns and implement long-term solutions.
• Suggest upgrades or modifications to improve machine reliability and efficiency.
• Support lean manufacturing and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance).
• Coordination with Production
• Work closely with production teams to schedule maintenance without affecting output.
• Provide technical support for machine setup issues related to mechanical/electrical faults.

Requirements

• Knowledge in CNC machine system controller exp : Siemens , Fanuc , Heidenheim
• Knowledge in electric system AC , DC , STAR/DELTA, PLC STEP7 and conversion
• Understand electric diagram / schematic and electrical components functioning
• Understand mechanical drawing and mechanical hardware functioning
• Understand hydraulic system and hydraulic components functioning
• Understand air pneumatic system and pneumatic components functioning
• Troubleshooting electrical problem, mechanical problem, hydraulic problem and air pneumatic problem
• At least Diploma in Mechanical / Mechatronic Engineering
• 2 years related working experience in CNC machining workshop
• Working exposure in CNC machines industry is an added advantage
