Job summary

Talent Trader Group in Penang, Malaysia seeks an experienced Laser Cutting Operator with supervisory responsibilities to lead and coach a small team. You will operate CNC laser cutters, set up parameters, load materials, and ensure accuracy against engineering drawings.

You will inspect parts with vernier caliper, maintain records, train operators, develop SOPs, and uphold safety and 6S standards in a manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC laser cutting machines to cut sheet metal per drawings.
• Load and unload raw materials onto the laser cutting machine.
• Set up machine parameters (speed, power, focus) as per material and thickness.
• Monitor operations to ensure smooth production and prevent defects.
• Ensure cutting accuracy and meet customer specifications.
• Inspect finished parts using vernier caliper and rulers.
• Identify defects and report abnormalities to supervisor.
• Maintain production records and job documentation.
• Provide hands-on training and coach Laser Cutting Operators.
• Develop and improve work instructions and training materials.
• Perform routine machine setup and basic preventive maintenance.
• Report malfunctions and maintenance issues.
• Follow safety procedures and wear PPE.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area per 6S.
• Support production improvements to reduce wastage.

Job description

• Operate CNC laser cutting machines to cut sheet metal according to engineering drawings and specifications.
• Load and unload raw materials (metal sheets) onto the laser cutting machine.
• Set up machine parameters such as cutting speed, power, and focus according to material type and thickness.
• Monitor machine operations to ensure smooth production and prevent defects.
• Ensure cutting accuracy and product quality meet customer specifications.
• Inspect finished parts using measuring tools (vernier caliper, ruler, etc.).
• Identify cutting defects and report abnormalities to the supervisor.
• Maintain production records and job documentation.
• Perform basic machine setup before production.
• Train and coach Laser Cutting Operators on machine operation, setup procedures, cutting parameters, drawing interpretation, quality requirements, and safe working practices.
• Provide hands‑on technical guidance and on‑the‑job training to new and existing operators and assess their competency before independent operation.
• Develop and improve work instructions, operating procedures, and training materials for laser cutting processes.
• Conduct routine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance of the laser machine.
• Report machine malfunctions or maintenance issues.
• Follow company safety procedures and wear required PPE.
• Maintain a clean and organized working area according to 6S standards.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of materials.
• Support production improvement activities to enhance productivity and reduce material wastage.
• Follow standard operating procedures (SOP) and work instructions.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years experience operating laser cutting machines is preferred.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
• Must have leadership or supervisory experience
• Precision sheet metal, machining, or fabrication industries.
• Familiar with measuring tools such as vernier caliper.
• Able to work in a manufacturing / production environment.
• Good discipline, teamwork, and attention to detail.
