Hitachi Rail STS Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. is seeking a Junior Project Engineer Protege Trainee in Kuala Lumpur. You will assist the project manager to coordinate engineering, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning across railway projects.

The role involves reviewing technical drawings, supporting design reviews, and helping manage testing activities on site. Fresh graduates with internships are welcome to apply and may travel to project sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline.
  • 0–3 years of railway/transportation/engineering project experience; fresh graduates welcome.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Manager in day-to-day activities and coordinate engineering, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning.
  • Review technical documents, drawings, and specifications and support design reviews.
  • Assist in testing, site inspections, and system acceptance testing; record results and address non-conformities.
  • Maintain project documentation, meeting minutes, and progress reports with proper document control.
  • Support commercial & contract activities including tracking changes and cost monitoring.

Job Description

Our technologies help to bring billions of people reliably to their destinations by rail every year - making sustainable mobility a reality. Junior Project Engineer Protege Trainee (Ref. No. R0144360) at our location in Kuala-Lumpur

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Coordination Assist the Project Manager in managing day-to-day project activities. Coordinate engineering, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning activities. Monitor project schedules, deliverables, and milestones. Track project progress and highlight potential risks, delays, or issues.
  • Engineering Support Review technical documents, drawings, specifications, and engineering submissions. Coordinate with engineering teams to ensure compliance with project requirements. Support design reviews and interface management activities. Assist in resolving technical issues related to railway systems.
  • Testing & Commissioning Support Support testing and commissioning activities for railway systems. Participate in site inspections, integration tests, and system acceptance tests. Monitor and record test results and non-conformities. Coordinate corrective actions arising from testing activities.
  • Documentation & Reporting Maintain project documentation, records, and correspondence. Prepare project progress reports, meeting minutes, and presentations. Monitor document submissions and approvals. Ensure proper document control procedures are followed.
  • Commercial & Contract Support Assist in tracking project variations, claims, and change requests. Support project cost monitoring and resource planning. Prepare inputs for project reviews and management reports.
Qualification

Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Railway Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience 0 to 3 years of experience in railway, transportation, infrastructure, or engineering projects. Fresh graduates with relevant internships or railway project exposure are encouraged to apply.

Knowledge/ Skills

Technical Skills Basic understanding of railway systems such as: Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and reporting tools.

Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of railway standards and project lifecycle processes. Experience with testing and commissioning activities. Understanding of project management principles. PMP, CAPM, or railway-related certifications would be an advantage.

Personal Attributes

Soft Skills Good communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and time management abilities. Analytical and problem-solving mindset. Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team environment. Willingness to travel and work at project sites when required.
