Job summary

UNIQLO Malaysia seeks a qualified translator/interpreter to facilitate effective communication between Japanese, English, and Malay-speaking stakeholders. You will translate documents, review agency translations, and provide consecutive interpretation for meetings and store visits.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Japanese language or linguistics, JLPT N1 (or equivalent), and 1–3 years of translation/interpretation experience. Proficiency in Excel/Word is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Japanese language, linguistics or related discipline.
• JLPT N1 or equivalent proficiency demonstrated through BJT.
• 1–3 years translation/interpretation experience.
• Ability to provide consecutive interpretation for Japanese expatriates and meetings.
• Experience with simultaneous interpretation is preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Translate internal and external documents between Japanese, Malay and English with accuracy and appropriate terminology.
• Review translations prepared by external translation agencies for accuracy and consistency.
• Provide interpretation support for discussions and negotiations between Japanese expatriates, management and external partners.
• Accompany Japanese expatriates during store visits, providing interpretation as required.
• Support general business communication involving Japanese-speaking stakeholders when interpretation is required.
• Provide department admin support including data compilation and training material preparation.

Job description

This role supports effective communication between Japanese, English/ Malay-speaking stakeholders by providing accurate translation and interpretation services.

With a solid understanding of Fast Retailing and UNIQLO’s fundamental philosophies and guiding principles, the position helps facilitate mutual understanding across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

• Translate internal and external documents between Japanese, Malay and English, ensuring accuracy and appropriate use of company-specific terminology.
• Review and revise translations prepared by external translation agencies to ensure accuracy, consistency, and suitability for internal and external use.
• Provide interpretation support for discussions and negotiations between Japanese expatriates, including management and external business partners.
• Accompany Japanese expatriates during store visits, providing interpretation support as required.
• Support general business communication involving Japanese-speaking stakeholders when interpretation is required.
• Provide administration support to the department, including data compilation, preparation of training materials and other duties as assigned or required from time to time.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Japanese language, linguistics or other related disciplines.
• Japanese: JLPT N1 or equivalent proficiency demonstrated through BJT
• With 1-3 years of translation/ Interpretation experience.
• Able to provide consecutive interpretation for Japanese expatriates, store operations and general business meetings.
• Experience in simultaneous interpretation is preferred but not mandatory.
• Candidates with experience frequently liaising and communicating with Japanese stakeholders are also welcome to apply.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across different levels of stakeholders.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Able to handle business- sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality.
