Job summary

Oliver Valves in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, invites applications for an Internal Sales Engineer responsible for handling customer inquiries, evaluating technical and commercial requirements, and offering the right valve solutions.

You will coordinate with production, purchasing, and external sales/distributors to ensure timely quotes, pricing, delivery dates, and profitable orders, while maintaining high standards of communication in Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese, and English.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree, Professional Degree, Master's Degree, Engineering (Chemical), Engineering (Mechanical), Engineering (Material Science), or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3–5 years working experience.
  • Required languages: Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese, English.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written in English; ability to converse in Chinese is an added advantage.
  • Currently holds a role in sales ideally within an engineering background.
  • Hands‑on commercial experience gained in an engineering/technical business.
  • Strong commercial acumen combined with the ability to grasp, understand and drive gross margin improvements.
  • Knowledge/experience of valves for the oil and gas industry.

Responsibilities

  • Respond verbally and/or in writing to all customer enquiries and progress orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Evaluate each enquiry technically and commercially to offer the correct product(s) that meet customer requirements.
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure customer needs are met while ensuring products are economically and technically viable.
  • Secure orders by evaluating customer needs, providing prompt and correct responses, and offering competitive pricing that maximises profit within company constraints.
  • Determine realistic delivery dates, using stock products where possible and coordinating with production and purchasing.
  • Support the external sales force and distributors worldwide by updating them on customer activity, project information and providing quotations, costing and delivery information as needed.
  • Follow up enquiries promptly within the designated area to successful or final conclusions to maximise order intake.
  • Review technical considerations and decide on product to offer, coordinating with the engineering department if applicable.
  • Prepare costing sheets for items not covered within a standard cost matrix.
  • Review contract terms and conditions, consulting GM/MD where required outside standard operating terms.
  • Compile bids to meet customer requirements and instructions.
  • Calculate pricing, including GM percentage, discounts and commissions.
  • Liaise with the Area Sales Manager regarding gross margin on bids and ensure they are copied.
  • Upon receipt of orders re‑affirm technical, commercial and quality aspects according to the bid.
