Job summary

Venture Intellectual Property Sdn Bhd is seeking a dedicated IP professional to join our Malaysian practice. You will handle trademarks, patents, industrial designs and copyrights, provide advisory services, and manage client IP portfolios with emphasis on timely docketing and efficient workflows.

Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Law, Intellectual Property, Business, Science, Engineering or any relevant field.
• Strong interest in developing technical expertise in IP and willingness to continuously develop professional skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Bahasa Malaysia; Chinese/Cantonese is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide consultancy and advisory services on trademarks, patents, industrial designs, copyrights and other IP matters.
• Prepare and review trademark specifications, classifications, applicant information, forms and filing documents.
• Conduct trademark searches and registrability assessments, identify risks and recommend registration strategies.
• Prepare documents for submission to IP offices (MyIPO and others).
• Manage the IP application process from filing to registration and monitor deadlines.
• Draft submissions, responses, and arguments for examination objections and office actions.
• Handle IP matters including office actions, oppositions, objections, hearings and related proceedings.
• Maintain and manage client IP portfolios and docketing timelines.
• Keep updated on IP laws and procedures; contribute to internal process improvements.
• Assist in preparing IP-related articles and educational content.

Job description

We are looking for a dedicated, proactive and detail-oriented team member to join our intellectual property (IP) practice. The successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of IP matters, with a primary focus on trademark, patent, industrial design and copyright prosecution, advisory work and portfolio management.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide consultancy and advisory services to clients on trademarks, patents, industrial designs, copyrights and other IP-related matters.
• Prepare and review trademark specifications, classifications, applicant information, forms and filing documents.
• Conduct trademark searches and registrability assessments, identify potential risks and recommend appropriate registration strategies.
• Prepare and handle documentation for submission to MyIPO and other relevant IP offices.
• Manage, follow up and monitor the entire IP application process from filing through to registration.
• Prepare reports, emails and correspondence for clients and foreign associates.
• Review filing receipts, registration documents, examination reports, provisional refusals, office actions and other registry correspondence, and determine the required follow-up actions periodically.
• Draft submissions, responses and written arguments in response to examination objections, provisional refusals and other IP Office requirements.
• Handle IP matters including office actions, oppositions, objections, hearings and other proceedings, as well as non-contentious matters relating to IP registration.
• Manage client IP portfolios and deadlines, including docketing, record maintenance, deadline monitoring and follow-up of pending matters.
• Keep updated on developments and changes in Intellectual Property laws, regulations and procedures.
• Assist in improving internal workflows, templates, systems and processes.
• Assist in preparing IP-related articles and educational content to create awareness of IP rights.
• Perform general administrative duties and other ad-hoc IP matters as required.

Job Qualification / Requirements

Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Law, Intellectual Property, Business, Science, Engineering or any relevant field.

Minimum 1-3 years of relevant experience in handling trademark, patent, industrial design, copyright or other IP matters is preferred.

Candidates with practical experience in IP prosecution will be given preference. Fresh graduates with a relevant background and a strong interest in developing a career in IP are welcome to apply.

Strong interest in IP and willingness to develop technical expertise in the field.

Strong research, analytical, drafting and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Proficiency in Chinese and Cantonese will be an added advantage.

Highly organised, meticulous and detail-oriented, particularly when handling documents, deadlines and IP records.

Self-motivated, proactive and responsible, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Able to manage multiple matters, prioritise competing deadlines and perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Strong learning agility and willingness to continuously develop professional and technical skills in IP industry. Sound knowledge of IP laws and procedures will be an added advantage.

Good interpersonal skills and a professional, collaborative approach when dealing with clients, colleagues and external parties.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using AI-assisted tools to support research, drafting and productivity.

Familiarity with international trademark procedures, including the Madrid System, foreign trademark filings and cross-border searches, will be an added advantage.

Possess own transportation and willing to travel when required.

Comfortable working in a hybrid environment, including working remotely when required.
