Job summary

SPCI HELM is seeking an experienced Instrument & Control Engineer in Malaysia to design and specify instrument systems for chemical and manufacturing projects. You will lead field calibration, loop checks, and I&C troubleshooting while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

The role requires 5+ years of experience, a degree in Control/Automation/Instrumentation, and strong PLC/DCS awareness.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in Control, Automation or Instrumentation.
  • Minimum 5 years designing Instrument and Control systems in chemical/manufacturing industries.
  • PLC/DCS programming experience is advantageous.
  • Strong SHEQ knowledge and ability to enforce SHEQ requirements.
  • Leadership skills to interact with all levels and exercise independent judgment.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; able to identify and solve problems quickly.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation standards/regulations; able to read P&IDs and various diagrams.

Responsibilities

  • Select and specify instrument types for projects.
  • Investigate and study possible improvements to current instrument and control systems.
  • Review documents submitted by consultants, contractors or vendors.
  • Supervise technicians in calibration, loop checking, testing and parameter configuration of field transmitters, control valves and analytical equipment.
  • Lead technicians in troubleshooting PLC/DCS I/O systems, control panels, wiring, interlocks and industrial networks (Modbus, Profibus, Industrial Ethernet).
  • Prepare cost estimates and I&C budgets for CAPEX projects.
  • Attend equipment inspections and factory acceptance tests.
  • Prepare and compile standard operating procedures and equipment manuals.
  • Provide technical support to operations during plant start-up and commissioning; participate in Hazards studies.

At least 5 years of relevant experiences in the design of Instrument and Control system preferably in chemical or manufacturing industries.

Experience in PLC/DCS programming will be an added advantage.

Strong SHEQ knowledge and ability to enforce SHEQ requirements.

Leadership skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels, and exercise independent judgment.

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills as well as able to identify and solve problems quickly.

Well-versed in Instrumentation standards and regulations.

Able to understand P&IDs, Single Line, Ladder Logic and Schematic Diagrams

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Instrument type selection and specification preparation.

Explore, investigate, analyze and study on possible improvement which can be made to the current instrument and control system.

Review engineering documents submitted by consultant, contractors or vendors.

Supervise and provide technical guidance to technicians in the field calibration, loop checking (4–20 mA, HART), testing and parameter configuration of field transmitters, control valves and analytical equipment.

Lead and provide technical support to technicians in troubleshooting and fault-finding of PLC/DCS I/O systems, control panels, wiring, interlocks and industrial communication networks, including Modbus, Profibus and Industrial Ethernet.

Prepare cost estimation and I&C budget for CAPEX projects.

Prepare RFQ documents, contractor/vendor quotation evaluation and selection recommendation.

Attend equipment inspections and factory acceptance tests.

Prepare and compile standard operating procedures and equipment operation manuals;

To provide technical support to the Operation team during plant start-up and commissioning works.

Participate in Hazard studies such as HAZOPs and other risk assessments.
