Job summary

Sunway Medical Centre in Malaysia is seeking an Infection Control Specialist to lead HCAI surveillance, analyze trends, and prepare reports to reduce healthcare-associated infections.

Responsibilities include outbreak investigation, contact tracing, and ensuring compliance with MOH/WHO/CDC guidelines, while promoting evidence-based practices, training, and audits to safeguard patient safety.

Qualifications

• Post Basic in Infection Control and Diploma in Nursing from a recognized nursing institution.
• Well-versed with MOH, WHO and CDC infection control guidelines.
• Good knowledge of accreditation requirements on infection control practices.

Responsibilities

• Conduct HCAI and targeted surveillance, analyze infection trends, prepare periodic reports, and provide recommendations to reduce healthcare-associated infections.
• Investigate suspected and confirmed infectious disease outbreaks, conduct contact tracing, and coordinate infection prevention measures.
• Ensure infection prevention and control practices comply with regulatory and accreditation requirements and CDC/WHO guidelines.
• Promote evidence-based infection control practices, care bundles, environmental hygiene, isolation precautions, and safe handling of hazardous and biological substances.
• Assess training needs and provide education, orientation, campaigns, and awareness programs for staff, patients, and families.
• Conduct environmental microbiological surveillance and interpret findings, providing recommendations to manage infection risks.
• Participate in internal and external infection control audits, develop audit tools, analyze findings, and disseminate audit reports.
• Use surveillance and audit findings to improve policies and clinical practices and infection prevention strategies.
• Provide support for assessment, investigation, follow-up, and documentation of occupational and patient exposure incidents.
• Maintain accurate infection control records and documentation, participate in committees and multidisciplinary initiatives, and collaborate with clinical and operational teams to promote patient safety.
