Hardware Applications Engineering Manager
- Ensure hardware application activities align with established system architecture standards and engineering best practices.
- Lead and contribute to proposal evaluations, design reviews, and engineering assessments to maintain quality, reliability, and technical excellence.
- Manage technical risks across hardware programmes, including retrofits, upgrades, and customised customer solutions.
- Oversee integration of mechanical, electrical, and vision systems to deliver complete and reliable customer solutions.
- Manage engineering resources and capacity planning across multidisciplinary teams to support project commitments.
- Ensure timely execution and delivery of retrofit projects, upgrade programmes, and customer-specific hardware implementations.
- Drive New Product Introduction (NPI) readiness and ensure smooth transition from development to deployment.
- Support resolution of customer escalations by providing technical and operational leadership.
Stakeholder Management & Collaboration
- Serve as the key liaison between Applications Engineering and departments including Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, and Service.
- Participate in customer meetings, technical discussions, programme reviews, and project updates.
- Work closely with Software Applications teams to ensure alignment between hardware and software deliverables.
- Communicate project progress, risks, priorities, and resource requirements to leadership and key stakeholders.
People Leadership & Strategy
- Recruit, mentor, develop, and coach engineers across Mechanical, Electrical, and Vision disciplines.
- Support career development and succession planning for engineering team members.
- Establish organisational priorities and strategic direction aligned with business objectives.
- Build scalable team structures, processes, and operating models to support business growth.
- Drive enhancements to engineering standards, design methodologies, and development processes.
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions relating to quality, field, or delivery issues.
- Promote design standardisation, knowledge sharing, and engineering best practices.
- Implement tools and process improvements to improve productivity, efficiency, and execution predictability.

A successful Hardware Applications Engineering Manager should have:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline.
- Master's Degree, PMP certification, or equivalent project/programme management credentials would be advantageous.
- Minimum 10 years of engineering experience within semiconductor equipment, automated test equipment (ATE), industrial automation, or related industries.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams across Mechanical, Electrical, and Vision functions.
- At least 5 years of engineering management, technical leadership, or people management experience.
- Strong experience managing customer-facing engineering projects and technical programme execution.
- Demonstrated capability in resource planning, capacity management, and engineering team utilisation.
- Experience coordinating with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, product engineering, and other cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of New Product Introduction (NPI), product deployment, retrofit programmes, and upgrade projects.
- Background in roles such as Applications Engineering Manager, Systems Engineering Manager, Engineering Manager, Product Engineering Manager, Technical Programme Manager, or similar leadership positions.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and customer engagement skills.
- Ability to take ownership of hardware application delivery and drive successful project outcomes.
- Willingness to travel as required to support customer programmes and business needs.
- Proven ability to lead teams beyond a single engineering discipline; multidisciplinary leadership experience is essential.
