Job summary

RUNJIAN (M) SDN. BHD. seeks anElectrical/Energy Engineer to lead grid connection applications and regulatory compliance for solar PV and energy storage projects in Malaysia. The role coordinates OSC submissions, regulatory approvals, and pre-connection inspections to ensure timely grid connection.

You will work with TNB, SEDA, and Suruhanjaya Tenaga, managing documentation, risk, and stakeholder engagement while ensuring compliance with local standards and capacity requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in renewable energy, particularly solar PV or energy storage grid connection applications, regulatory compliance, or power engineering projects in Malaysia.
  • Strong knowledge of Malaysia’s Electricity Supply Act 1990 and relevant technical and regulatory standards.
  • Native or fluent in Bahasa Malaysia or English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong regulatory awareness, attention to compliance and detail, and ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Grid Connection Applications & Process Management: Manage grid connection applications for solar PV and energy storage projects in Malaysia, including submissions through TNB’s One Stop Centre (OSC). Follow up on technical assessments, site surveys, connection proposals, and approvals to ensure projects are connected to the grid as planned.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Licensing: Manage regulatory approvals and licensing based on project capacity, including applications to Suruhanjaya Tenaga and SEDA where applicable. Coordinate CAS reports, EIA, and other regulatory documents for non-domestic solar projects.
  • Inspection, Testing & Grid Connection: Coordinate pre-connection inspections and ensure all required compliance documents are complete and properly maintained, including project approvals, equipment certifications, construction records, and test reports. Submit PV system information and testing documentation, including Form G/H, and coordinate meter installation, system testing, and final grid connection.
  • Local Stakeholder & Government Relations: Act as the key contact with TNB, SEDA, Suruhanjaya Tenaga, local authorities, and other stakeholders. Maintain relationships, stay updated on regulatory requirements, and resolve issues affecting approval/connection.
  • Internal Coordination & Risk Management: Engage early in project development to assess grid capacity and provide practical recommendations. Identify risks, help avoid delays, and coordinate with delivery teams to accelerate approval processes.

Key Responsibilities

Grid Connection Applications & Process Management: Manage grid connection applications for solar PV and energy storage projects in Malaysia, including submissions through TNB’s One Stop Centre (OSC). Follow up on technical assessments, site surveys, connection proposals, and approvals to ensure projects are connected to the grid as planned.

Regulatory Compliance & Licensing: Manage the required regulatory approvals and licensing based on project capacity, including applications to Suruhanjaya Tenaga and SEDA where applicable. Coordinate the submission of Grid Connection Assessment (CAS) reports, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), and other required regulatory documents for non-domestic solar projects.

Inspection, Testing & Grid Connection: Coordinate pre-connection inspections and ensure all required compliance documents are complete and properly maintained, including project approvals, equipment certifications, construction records, and test reports. Submit required PV system information and testing documentation, including Form G/H, and coordinate meter installation, system testing, and final grid connection.

Local Stakeholder & Government Relations: Act as the key point of contact with TNB, SEDA, Suruhanjaya Tenaga, local authorities, and other relevant stakeholders. Maintain effective working relationships, stay updated on regulatory and grid connection requirements, and proactively resolve issues that may affect the approval or connection process.

Internal Coordination & Risk Management: Engage in the early stages of project development to assess grid capacity and provide practical recommendations to the project team. Identify potential grid capacity and regulatory risks, help avoid unnecessary redesign or project delays, and coordinate with delivery teams on initiatives that can accelerate the approval process.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related field.

3+ years of experience in renewable energy, particularly solar PV or energy storage grid connection applications, regulatory compliance, or power engineering projects in Malaysia. Experience successfully leading grid connection for large-scale C&I solar PV or energy storage projects is highly preferred.

Strong knowledge of Malaysia’s Electricity Supply Act 1990 and relevant technical and regulatory standards. Familiarity with the grid connection and approval processes, requirements, fees, and documentation of TNB, SEDA, and Suruhanjaya Tenaga.

Native or fluent in Bahasa Malaysia or English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to handle formal correspondence and enquiries from government agencies and utility companies effectively. Basic Chinese communication skills are preferred.

Strong regulatory awareness, attention to compliance and detail, and the ability to work under pressure. Good understanding of local stakeholder and community engagement, with the ability to manage public relations issues related to project development.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with TNB, SEDA, Suruhanjaya Tenaga, or leading local EPCC companies such as Plus Xnergy.

Registered Professional Engineer (Ir.) qualification in Malaysia or relevant electrical safety certifications.

Familiarity with Malaysia’s Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), CREAM, or other green electricity trading mechanisms.
