Job summary

Cypark Resources Berhad in Malaysia seeks a Resident Engineer (132kV) to oversee the safe, reliable operation and maintenance of the 132kV GIF and related HV systems at the LSS5+ Solar Plant, ensuring compliance with ST, Malaysian Grid Code, Energy Commission, and Cypark standards.

You will lead 132kV assets, coordinate switching, outages, and grid interconnections, mentor junior staff, and work with TNB Grid, OEMs, EPCs, and regulators to maximize availability and PR.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering recognised by BEM.
• Registered Graduate Engineer with BEM; Professional Engineer (Ir.) preferred.
• GCPV Certification or renewable energy certification is an added advantage.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in High Voltage electrical systems, substations, or utility‑scale power generation.
• Minimum 3 years as a Competent Engineer (132kV) or equivalent responsible for high‑voltage switching operations and substation maintenance.
• Experience in utility‑scale Solar PV plants, LSS projects, IPPs, TNB Grid, transmission substations, or renewable energy facilities is highly preferred.
• Proven experience in 132kV switching operations, protection systems, substation maintenance, outage management, commissioning, and grid interconnection facilities.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the appointed Competent Engineer for 132kV installations; manage switching operations, planned outages with TNB GSO, and strict compliance with ST regulations, PTW, and LOTO.
• Oversee 132kV GIS/AIS switchyards, Power Transformers, Protection Panels, SCADA systems, and Solar PV balance of system equipment to maximize plant availability.
• Ensure full adherence to TNB Grid Code requirements; lead protection relay coordination, fault investigations, and testing (Primary/Secondary injection, End-to-End).
• Formulate annual maintenance strategies, monitor equipment health via DGA, thermography, and partial discharge testing, and lead RCA for failures.
• Assist the O&M team in resolving grid-related operational issues, minimizing generation downtime during scheduled shutdowns, and meeting PR targets.
• Oversee OEMs, contractors, and service providers; coordinate maintenance outages and witness FAT, SAT, and commissioning while enforcing HSE standards.
• Maintain liaison with ST, TNB Grid, SEDA, and DOSH, ensuring adherence to Electricity Supply Act and ISO management systems.
• Lead EHV restoration activities and emergency switching during grid faults or plant trips, conduct investigations, and execute corrective actions.

The Resident Engineer (132kV) is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, maintenance, and statutory compliance of the 132kV Grid Interconnection Facility (GIF) and associated high-voltage electrical systems at the LSS5+ Solar Plant. The role ensures the reliable evacuation of electricity generated by the utility-scale solar PV plant to the National Grid while maintaining full compliance with Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST), Malaysian Grid Code, Energy Commission regulations, and Cypark operational standards. The incumbent will provide technical leadership for all 132kV electrical assets, ensuring maximum plant availability, grid reliability, personnel safety, and continuous improvement of renewable energy generation performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

• High Voltage & Safety Management: Serve as the appointed Competent Engineer for 132kV installations; manage switching operations, planned outages with TNB GSO, and strict compliance with ST regulations, PTW, and LOTO.
• Substation & Asset Operations: Oversee 132kV GIS/AIS switchyards, Power Transformers, Protection Panels, SCADA systems, and Solar PV balance of system equipment to maximize plant availability.
• Protection & Grid Compliance: Ensure full adherence to TNB Grid Code requirements; lead protection relay coordination, fault investigations, and testing (Primary/Secondary injection, End-to-End).
• Reliability & Predictive Maintenance: Formulate annual maintenance strategies, monitor equipment health via DGA, thermography, and partial discharge testing, and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for failures.
• Solar Plant Engineering Support: Assist the O&M team in resolving grid-related operational issues, minimizing generation downtime during scheduled shutdowns, and meeting Performance Ratio (PR) targets.
• Contractor & Stakeholder Management: Oversee OEMs, contractors, and service providers; coordinate maintenance outages and witness FAT, SAT, and commissioning while enforcing HSE standards.
• Regulatory Compliance: Maintain ongoing liaison with Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST), TNB Grid, SEDA, and DOSH, ensuring total adherence to the Electricity Supply Act and ISO management systems.
• Emergency & Incident Response: Lead EHV restoration activities and emergency switching during grid faults or plant trips, conduct technical investigations, and execute corrective action plans.

Knowledge & Ability Requirements

• Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of 132kV substations, GIS/AIS switchgear, power transformers, protection relays (ABB/Siemens/SEL), IEC 61850 protocols, transformer diagnostics (DGA), and utility-scale solar PV grid interconnections.
• Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, SCADA systems, and CMMS platforms (SAP PM or Maximo).
• Soft Skills & Leadership: Strong technical problem-solving capabilities, crisis decision-making skills during emergencies, effective contractor management, and a commitment to mentoring junior engineering staff.
