Job summary

Bumi Armada Berhad, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, invites applications for a Principal Marine Advisor role. The candidate will guarantee safe marine operations across assets, ensure compliance with Class/Flag and local rules, and support vessel activities and mooring operations on various units.

The role requires extensive FPSO/FSO experience, strong OCIMF/SIRE/ISGOTT knowledge, and a track record as Master or OIM.

Qualifications

• Valid STCW II/2 Master Mariner certificate with oil endorsement.
• 10 years' experience on Crude and Product Tankers, worldwide.
• 5 years' experience as OIM/Marine Superintendent on FPSOs.
• Hands-on Mooring Master experience on SPM/FPSOs (≥10 moorings).
• Extensive FPSO/FSU/FSRU marine operations knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Safe Marine Operations of the Assets.

• Oversee offloading & support vessel activities on units.
• Assist Operations Managers in recruiting Marine personnel.
• Monitor CAMS marine operations; ensure regulatory compliance.

• Guide offices on flag/class/regulatory issues; communicate changes.
• Assist with internal/external coordination from KL.
• Develop Marine Operations Readiness Plans for new projects.
• Establish procedures for offloading, mooring; manage risk escalation.
• Ensure maintenance/inspection regimes for marine equipment.
• Review manuals/procedures for units as required.
• Deputy CSO (Company Security Officer).
• Marine support in the KL ERT.

Job description

Principal Marine Advisor to the BAB organisation.

Key Accountabilities:

Ensure Safe Marine Operations of the Assets

Ensure the units are compliant with Class / Flag and Local regulations.

Ensure offloading & support vessel activities on various units are carried out safely.

Assist unit Operations Managers in recruiting Marine Personnel with required qualifications and experience.

Monitor and maintain all Marine operational sections of CAMS as per latest industry standards and ensure that all units are in compliance.

Conduct planned Marine operational audits of various units and local offices.

Assist unit Operations Managers with marine operations and review of related procedures.

Guide local offices / offshore units on flag / class / local / industry issues and keep them updated of any regulatory changes.

Assist local offices / offshore units when any internal/external coordination is required from KL.

For new projects, develop Marine Operations Readiness Plans, establish procedures for offloading and mooring, and manage risk escalation tied to safety and start-up milestones.

Ensure equipment used for marine activities has appropriate maintenance and inspection regimes established.

Review marine operations related manuals, and procedures for various units as and when required.

Deputy CSO (Company Security Officer).

Marine support in the KL ERT

Requirements:

Education Qualifications / Professional Certifications:

Valid STCW II/2 Master Mariner Certificate of Competency (Unlimited) with at least oil endorsement.

Experience:

10 years' experience on Crude and Product Tankers, sailing worldwide at various ranks including Master.

5 years' experience as OIM / Marine Superintendent on FPSO's.

LNG production, storage and offloading operational background desirable

Hands on experience as Mooring Master on SPM / FPSO's with at least 10 mooring operations.

Complete spectrum of Marine related knowledge for FPSO / FSU / FSRU and other offshore marine units.

Offtake operations, including Marine pilotage for various kinds on units.

Knowledge of FPSO production systems.

Extensive knowledge of OCIMF standards (SIRE, ISGOTT), ship-to-ship (STS) operations, risk assessment, and emergency response management.
