Job summary

The Financial Controller will lead financial management for Malaysia operations in a dynamic multinational chemical & agriculture distribution environment. You will drive timely financial reporting, budgeting, tax compliance, and governance across multiple entities.

With 10–12 years of experience and a strong track record in multi-entity finance and SAP S/4HANA, you will mentor the regional finance team, optimize processes, and support strategic business initiatives in Malaysia and globally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
• CPA/ACCA/CMA/ICAEW or equivalent qualification required
• 10–12 years progressive financial experience, 5+ years in a senior role in a multinational or multi-entity environment
• Experience with multi-group financial reporting and managing multiple local and global entities essential
• Strong understanding of tax law, transfer pricing, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance
• Proven track record in M&A, restructuring, and transfer pricing documentation
• Experience managing banking relationships and treasury functions
• Hands-on SAP S4 Hana, strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
• Strong analytical, strategic thinking and leadership abilities

Responsibilities

The Financial Controller will lead the financial management, reporting, compliance, and analysis activities for the company's operations in Malaysia. Working in a dynamic multinational chemical & agriculture distribution environment, the role requires accurate and timely periodic financial reporting, cost control, statutory compliance, and strategic support to business operations.

Key responsibilities:

Lead financial reporting across multiple entities in Malaysia, ensuring accurate and timely closing.

Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings across local group of companies and global subsidiaries.

Ensure group reporting complies with IFRS, local GAAP, and company policies.

Coordinate group-wide budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.

Monitor compliance with Group Policies, regulatory & legal requirements and compliance.

Tax, Compliance & Governance

Ensure full compliance with local and international tax laws, regulations, and statutory obligations.

Oversee preparation and filing of tax returns and lead interactions with tax authorities and auditors. Manage all taxation matters including corporate tax, indirect taxes, and transfer pricing compliance

Manage and maintain global transfer pricing documentation, including Master File and Local Files.

Strengthen internal controls and ensure adherence to corporate governance and compliance policies.

M&A and Restructuring

Support financial due diligence, handling company restructuring, and integration planning for mergers, acquisitions, and business restructuring.

Partner with legal, strategy, and finance teams to assess and execute corporate transactions.

Operational Finance & Cost Control

Analyze cost drivers ensuring profit optimization and efficiency

Provide commercial finance support to pricing, margin analysis, and customer profitability studies.

Oversee inventory management, valuation, and cost optimization.

Banking & Treasury

Manage cash flow, liquidity, and working capital across multiple entities.

Maintain strong working relationships with banks and financial institutions in Malaysia.

Oversee trade finance, credit facilities, foreign exchange risk and exposure, and banking operations.

Group & Entity-Level Management

Handle financial operations and reporting for multiple group companies, both domestically and internationally.

Ensure intercompany transactions, billings and reconciliations are properly & promptly recorded and aligned with group policies.

Provide visibility into subsidiary performance and financial health for regional and global leadership.

Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals across accounting, tax and treasury functions.

Foster a performance-driven culture with clear KPIs, continuous learning, and staff development.

ERP & Process Optimization

Ensure proper financial controls, risk management and governance practices are in place.

Oversee the financial modules of enterprise systems – S4 Hana are robust and drive system enhancements, automation, and process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency.

Regional Collaboration & Business Partnership

Work closely with regional offices to align financial reporting, compliance, and operational objectives.

Foster strong cross-functional relationships to support business operations and strategic initiatives.

Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes in coordination with regional teams.

Identify and manage major risk that could affect company objectives, assets, finances, compliances and reputation.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or a related field

CPA, ACCA, CMA, ICAEW or equivalent professional qualification is required

Minimum 10-12 years of progressive financial experience, with at least 5 years in a senior role in a multinational or multi-entity environment

Experience with multi-group financial reporting and managing multiple local and global entities is essential

Strong understanding of tax law, transfer pricing, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance

Proven track record in M&A, business restructuring, and transfer pricing documentation

Solid experience managing banking relationships and treasury functions

Hands on experience in SAP S4 Hana, and advance proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and strategic thinking abilities
