Job summary

FFM Further Processing Sdn Bhd in Pulau Indah, Klang invites applications for an R&D/Product Development role. The successful candidate will apply research knowledge to plan, design and conduct market research studies, analyze data, and communicate findings to support strategic decisions.

Requires a Bachelor degree in a relevant field and about 2 years of experience in a related industry. Knowledge of halal requirements and quality systems like GMP/ISO22000 is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in relevant food science field.
• 2 years of experience in food R&D or related industry.
• Familiarity with GMP/ISO22000/HACCP is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop product formulation and process flow; update them as needed.
• Monitor and coordinate all activities related to new/existing product development.
• Liaise with suppliers for samples and required documents (e.g., specification, halal cert).
• Conduct experiments and produce sample products.
• Carry out pilot plant trials and coordinate with departments to resolve issues.
• Attend external meetings with clients, marketing and other parties as needed.
• Provide internal R&D training.
• Research aspects of food processing, preservation, quality, packaging, storage and delivery.
• Analyse results and update R&D documents.
• Conduct sensory evaluation for new or existing products.
• Supervise technicians.
• Ensure Halal certification compliance (JAKIM).
• Develop sensory standards and perform screenings.
• Develop Technical List and alternate supplier lists for ingredients/materials.
• Prepare product costing based on raw materials and manufacturing costs.
• Recommend improvements to products and processes.
• Maintain R&D resources and equipment.
• Involve in packaging artwork development and labeling compliance.
• Perform other duties as required.

JOB SUMMARY

The basic role of this position includes apply research knowledge to plan, design and conduct market research studies, analyses and interpret data and communicate the findings and implications. This information is useful for company to make strategic business decision based on known opportunities and threats in the market.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY

• Responsible for the development of the product formulation & process flow. Responsible to update the product formulation & process flow.
• Monitor and coordinate all activities related to new / existing product development.
• To liaise with supplier for new product samples and documents required, e.g.: specification, halal cert, etc.
• To conduct experiments and produce sample products.
• Carry out pilot plant trials in production and coordinate with relevant departments to resolve problems.
• To attend external appointments/meetings with clients, marketing team and other parties if needed.
• To conduct necessary internal training related to R&D.
• Undertake basic and applied research into aspects of food processing, food preservation, food quality, food deterioration, packaging, storage, and delivery.
• Analyse results and experimental data and update documents in R&D department.
• Conduct sensory evaluation for new and existing product sample or when it is necessary.
• Supervise and coordinate the work of technicians.
• To ensure all raw materials & ingredients used are Halal certified (JAKIM standard).
• To develop Product Sensory Standard and conduct sensory screening.
• To develop and analyse Technical List.
• To develop alternate supplier lists for ingredients and raw materials.
• Preparing product costing based on raw materials and manufacturing costs to ensure profitable products.
• Formulate recommendations to develop new or improve current products, product upgrades, new or improved processes and cost savings.
• Ensure all R&D resources (labour, raw material, equipment’s, building and facilities, etc) are well kept, utilized, well maintained, recorded, and accounted for.
• Involve in the development of packaging artwork and ensure packaging labelling are accordance with the law.
• Other duties as may be assigned or may come up as part of organizational requirement.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education & Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree Holder on Food Technology, Biochemical Engineering, Chemistry or equivalent

Relevant Experience & Years of Service

• 2 years of experience and/or training in relevant industry.

Technical Skills & Professional Knowledge

• Familiar with Management Food Safety System, GMP, ISO22000 and HACCP.
• Undergone Food Handling Training.
• Basic knowledge of Food Act and Regulations and Food Label Act.
• Basic understanding on Halal requirement.
• Experience in factory and SOP documentation will be an advantage.

• Computer literacy including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Words.
• Good communicational skills in both verbally and writing.
• Ability to work independently and strong problem-solving skills.
• Strong analytical abilities require for data analysis and reporting.
